 Why to teach?

Help student understand and appreciate themselves as unique
individual who accept complete responsibility for their thoughts,
feelings and action.

 What to teach?
Encourages individual creativity and imagination more than

Community Perception on the Role of Teachers in the
Community Teachers are perceived to be:

What is Morality?
The quality of human acts by which we call them right or
wrong, good or evil. ( Panizo , 1964)

Human action is right when it conforms with norm, rule or law


of morality.

Man’s action, habit or character is good when it is not lacking


of what is natural to man

Man has intellect and free will Intellect makes a man capable of
thinking, judging and reasoning

Free will gives him the ability to choose

What is Foundational Moral Principle?
• Principle
• from latin word princeps which means beginning, a source
• Foundational Moral Principle
• universal norm upon which all other principles on the rightness or
wrongness of an action is based
• It is contained in the natural law
• Natural law of “do good and avoid evil”
• Golden Rule
• Two great commandments:

• Kant: act in such a way that your maxim can be maxim for all

• Christians: love God with all your heart love your neighbor as you
love yourself

What is Foundational Moral Principle?
• Buddhist: Eightfold Path
1. Strive to know the truth
2. Resolve to resist evil
3. Say nothing to hurt others
4. Respect life, morality and property
5. Engage in a job that does not injure others
6. Strive to free their mind from evil
7. Control their feelings and thoughts
8. Practice proper forms of concentration - hatred
does not cease by hatred; hatred ceases only by
love

What Should A Teacher Be?
• Teacher as a person of good moral character duly licensed
professional has dignity and reputation with high moral
values technical and professional competence in the practice
of their profession they strictly adhere to, observe and
practice this set of ethical, moral principles, standards and
values
• Four ways of describing good moral character:
• Being fully human
• realized potential as a human person
• Being a loving person
• caring, unselfish
• Being a virtuous person
• good habits and attitude
• Being a morally mature person
• emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual development is
appropriate to your developmental stage

• have unchanging and universal values: love, care and concern for our
fellowmen also called transcendent values as they are beyond
changing times, beyond space and people

 Value formation is a training of the intellect and the
will

 The intellect proposes and the will disposes
 Nothing is willed unless it is first known
 Thought precedes the deliberation of the will .

 Develop your intellect in its three functions:


1) Formation of ideas, judgment and reasoning
2) Training of the will must be self training
3) Yielding to impulse results in the enfeeblement
of self-control
To have a strong will means to have control of the
will to be able to direct it despite all contrary impulses

There must be a caller, someone is called and a response


Christian – God is the caller

Muslims – Allah is the caller

– = to send You are called and you are sent to the world to
accomplish a mission

• Mission is defined as“task assigned”.


• Teachingis your assigned task
•you have to prepare for it never take for granted your studies now! Your four years
pre service education will equip you with knowledge, skills and attitude to
becomeaneffective teacher.
•Thismission calls for acontinuing professional education “once ateacher;
