Introduction
• Every year, around 8,00,000 people are taking their own lives. That’s one person every 40 seconds
• Estimated annual mortality is 14·5 deaths per 1,00,000 people
• Globally, 1.4% of deaths were from suicide in 2017. i.e., 10 people per 1,00,000 died from suicide in 2017
• 75% of suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries
• Tenth leading cause of death worldwide
• It is the second leading cause of death in 15-29 year-olds globally
• Each suicide is a tragedy which has a long-lasting effect on the people behind us and affects families,
societies and whole countries
Data Overview
• The dataset is chosen from Kaggle, which compares socio-economic information with suicide rates
by year and country
• The data set has a total of 27,821 observations
• This dataset contains variables County, year, age, sex, Suicide no., population, HDI for year, GDP for
year/capita, and generation for year 1985-2016

Solution and Implementation
• The above data can be used for reporting by media in a responsible way to spread awareness.
• Reducing access to the means of suicide (e.g. Pesticides, firearms, certain medications).
• Based on the age segmentation government or other institutions can implement school-based
interventions.
• Introducing alcohol policies to reduce the harmful use of alcohol.
• Early identification, treatment and care of people with mental and substance use disorders, chronic
pain and acute emotional distress.
• Training of non-specialized health workers in the assessment and management of suicidal
behaviour.
• Follow-up care for people who attempted suicide and provision of community support
