 Past continous tense
• Definition of past continous tense it is used to
express a continued or ongoing action in past, an
ongoing action which occurred in past and
completed at some point in past.
It expresses an ongoing nature of an action in
past. For example, “he was laughing.” This
sentence shows ongoing action (laughing) of a
person which occurred in past. Past continuous
tense is also called past progressive.

Example from the daily activity:
• I was sleeping.
• They were dancing.

Example from the song:

• you were throwing pebbles
• I was crying on the staircase
• I was begging you, "Please don't go"

 Parallel Actions
Past continuous is used to show two actions happening at the
same time in the past, like in these examples:
I was reading and he was watching TV.

While she was sleeping, Jack was doing his homework.

Notice the word "while" is often used in these situations:

While I was cleaning, she was watching television.

He was talking while she was studying.
