SaPa – Tả Van – where the H’mong minority thrive to live and prosper. Also the highest point of SaPa inhabited
by the Ethnic people
I really want to spend this trip with students who I hope can explore the hidden charm and more than that,
can understand the hardship of ethnic people. On my last trip there, one image really obsessing me was a
father rushing on his motorbike, quick off the mark stopped and approached sth. The sound of the brake
grabbed my attention, and it turned out he picked up a sandal – looking at it and checking if it is usable. Then,
yes he picked it and continued his travel home with a smile.
I can say for sure there are loads of activities for a team there. Many would think of sightseeing by motorbike,
I much prefer trekking through the villages, watching people do their daily chores. Another thing I would love
to try is having lunch by the streamside. I once did it, and next I want to relive the moment – eating roasted
pork with local Xoi Ngu Sac – five colours from 5 different types of sticky rice. Last but not least, taking photos
of ladder rice field is my primary purpose. September and Oct are the harvesting season when golden waving
rice fields are overwhelming here and there. The whole scenery is fully covered in yellow – I bet everyone
would be dominated by this sight and this would be an eye-opening experience.
The last question to be addressed is why I choose to visit this place. My answer is easy: quiet and tranquility.
To tell the truth, I have an aversion to the hustles and bustles of city life so I enjoy every moment of peace in
some off the beaten track areas. And Sa Pa, like a sophisticated chef, offers me the taste. I cant forget the
feeling of nostalgia – sitting under a tree on a slope of a hill, sipping a cup of coffee in the morning and
contemplating the endless golden rice field. Simultaneously, the slow breeze from the valley blows; it’s just
like enjoying a masterpiece of music concert.
Another key reason is the price: it is affordable and really suits the budget of students like you. Within
1million VND u can stay at a homestay with a local family and other foreign visitors. The food is heaven: fresh,
tasty and eye-catchy.
IT’S VERY KIND OF YOU TO SAY SO
THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME
REALLY APPRECIATED
