To discuss the role of the UNIFIL Force Sgt
Major (FSM) as an indispensable link in the
chain of command.

 ROLE OF UNIFIL FSM
• Accompany the FC/DFC on visit to Units and
other places when necessary
• Be a link between officers and troops by
finding out problem areas and bringing them to
the notice of command
• Insist on orderly behavior from all troops
• Be an example in discipline, turnout and
devotion to duty and general uprightness

• Pay occasional visit to Unit locations and
interact with troops
• Ensure there is cooperation between all Unit
RSMs
• Take part in all Medal/TOA with Protocol to
ensure UNIFIL ceremonial standards are
maintain
• Holds quarterly meeting with RSMs to ensure
cooperation among them
 CHALLENGES
• Most RSMs have no Lotus address or Lotus in
active
• Some RSMs have no official means of
communication – Dect or Desk phone
