AUTOMATIC

SORTING MACHINE
FINAL YEAR PROJECT BY:-

INTRODUCTION:-

 Automation is preferred for faster and precise operations as

compared to manual operations. This presentation a mean of
simple yet effective fixed type of automation for sorting the
products.
 Two or more products passing on the conveyer belt would be
identified by the method of image processing and would be
dropped down into their respective boxes by the rapid actions of
robotics arms, fixed on the sides of conveyer belt.
MOTIVATION:-

 The heart of most distribution centers today is SORTATION. If it is

applied correctly, products are efficiently routed to appropriate
areas of the facility. Applied incorrectly, and the consequences can
be catastrophic, often times costly companies spend millions of
dollars in labor working and non-value added processes.
 This project will be beneficiary for all the commercial industries as it
will automate one of the most used machine i.e. SORTING MACHINE
 Currently many Industries in Pakistan doesn’t have these kind of
automation they are still living in the old ages where labors check in
which box they want to put the package.. This process is not
efficient as there a slight delay of the labor can lead to a major fall
back in time.

RASPBERRY Pi:-

 The RASPBERRY PI is a low cost, credit card sized computer that

plugs into a computer, monitor or T.V, uses a standard keyboard
and mouse. It is capable little device that enables people of all
ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in
languages like SCRATCH and PYTHON.
 Python, C, C++, java, scratch, and Ruby all come installed by
default on the RASPBERRY Pi. The people from RASPBERRY Pi
recommends scratch for younger kids. Other languages that can be
used are HTML 5.
HOW DOES IT WORKS:-

 An SD card is inserted into the slot on the board acts as the hard-
drive for the RASPBERRY Pi. It is powered by USB and the video
output can be hooked up to a traditional RCA TV set, A more
modern monitor, or even a TV using the HDMI port.
 This gives you all of the basic abilities of a normal computer. It also
has an extremely low power consumption of about 3 watts. To put
this power consumption in perspective, you could run over 30
RASPBERRY Pi’s in place of a standard light bulb.
HMI (HUMAN-MACHINE INTERFACE)

 A human machine interface(HMI) is a user interface or dashboard that

connects a person to a machine, system or device. While the term can
technically be applied to any screen that allows a user to interact with
a device, HMI is most commonly used in the context of an industrial
process.
 Although HMI is the most common term for this technology, it is
sometimes referred to as man-machine interface (MMI), operate
interface terminal (OIT), local operator interface or operator terminal.
HMI and graphical user interface are similar but not synonymous. GUIs
are often leveraged within HMIs for visualization capabilities
 In industrial settings, HMIs can be used to:
 Visually display data.
 Track production time, trends and tags.
 Monitor machine input and outputs and E.T.C.
IMAGE PROCESSING:-

 Aaron Klug invented DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING in 1966, at the

university of CAMBRIDGE, as he was a molecular biologist.
 Image processing is a method to perform some operations on an
image, in order to get an enhanced image or to extract some useful
information from it. It is the type of signal processing in which input is an
image and output may be an image or characteristics/features
associated with that image.

 APPLICATIONS:-
Digital image processing, as a computer-based
technology, carries out automatic processing, manipulating and
interpreting of such visual information, and plays an increasingly important
role in many aspects of our daily life, as well as in a wide variety of
disciplines and fields in science and technology.
MAJOR COMPONENTS:-

 CONVEYER BELT AND FRAME with motor.

 ROBOTIC ARMS.
 CONTROLLER AND HMI.
 CAMERA with IMAGE PROCESSING.
EXPECTED PROJECT RESULTS:-

 The use of men power and human errors caused by the labors like
due to the delay in analyzing the package valuable time is lost.
 Our project will make the industry sector free from some of these
human errors. The sorting mechanism that are detected by a
number of labors will be reduced to a single operator i.e. Where
number of labors are required to identify the box, the identification
would be in hands of a single operator.
Merits and APPLICATION:-

 No: of labors required to analyze the package will be reduced to a

single operator.
 Reduction of maximum human errors.
 Increase in industrial working efficiency.
 Cost effective ( saving the load of salaries ).

 APPLICATIONS:-
1. AIRPORTS.
2. CAR MANUFACTURING COMPANIES.
3. SHOPPING INDUSTRIES
CONCLUSION:-

 The use man power and human errors caused by the labors will
minimized in the industry, moreover if it is placed in wrong box it
requires a long time to repeat the procedure for that package. our
project will make the sorting in industrial sector free from some of
these human errors. It is time efficient and cost efficient too and
meet the modern aspects of industrial procedures.
