Origins & History
 Burger King was founded in 1953 by Keith Kramer
and Matthew Burns as “Insta-Burger King”
 David Edgerton and James McLamore purchased
the company in 1954 and renamed it “Burger King”

 In 2018, globally famous quick service restaurant chain
Burger King operated and franchised a total of 17,796
restaurants worldwide.

 Today, there are more than 13,000 Burger King
restaurants in 91 countries and territories worldwide.
According to the data company ScrapeHero, as of July
29, 2019, there were 7,237 Burger Kings across the
United States. Florida came out ahead of all other
states, with a total of 571 Burger Kings. Fittingly, it’s
actually where the first-ever Burger King location was.
 The key people behind its success are Alexandre
Behring, Daniel S. Schwartz, José E. Cil and Joshua
Kobza.

 For the past several decades, barriers to international
trade have been falling, granting businesses access to
new foreign markets. Industries have taken advantage of
these new opportunities globalization has directly
impacted Burger King in the way it structured its
business model through franchising. Burger King took
advantage of the relative free flow of resources under
globalization to expand globally.

 88% of Burger King’s restaurants worldwide are
franchised in fiscal 2009, contributing to $412.5 millions
of total revenue globally.
 With globalization, competition is globalized and
relentless.
 Burger King differentiates itself from other fast food
giants by acknowledging culture and country specific
needs.

ways of ordering a Whopper meal
 Another response to globalization they are offering
healthier menu with less salt and also with its product
innovation to provide food with higher nutrition contents.
 They are not just focusing on the products alone, in fact
they have a program 'Fun with a Future’ which
concentrates on employee engagement

 This is in line with the concept of globalization where
people of different races, culture and family background
will have a common global identification as BK’s brand
ambassador.
 CSR: (1) develop new menu options that meet
customer’s nutritional needs globally. Ex: Kids meal with
apple fries or choice of fruits such as apples, grapes,
milk or fruit juice. (2) BK McLAMORE Foundation. Focuses
on advancement of education

 They provide opportunities to women and minorities and
is committed to recruiting, retaining and developing its
employees through workshops, speakers, and various
networking opportunities.

 BK together with IKEA AND NIKE gained recognition by
Cannes Lions Festival together with IKEA and NIKE. This

brands that use creativity with the right amount of
bravery to drive their business forward.

 The Emoji Company and the Burger King brand have
joined forces for a worldwide kids’ meal activation
designed to spread positivity and deliver an anti-bullying
message.

 Franchising is a major driver of economic growth in the
Philippines.
 The franchise industry is a significant contributor to:
- country’s gross domestic product (GDP)

 “Most people will choose any other fast food over BK, I really think they
have gone down hill in the last few years and I hate to say it but in my
area it would seem as though they would go out of business as well...”
 “I honestly cant stand burger kings hamburgers they always taste
burnt as for the chicken sandwiches love them onion rings are
amazing fries are do able but not my favorite really wish they had
more variety of chicken products”

 “Thank you so much BK for the impossible whopper! It’s so delicious and
it’s great having a vegetarian option. Please keep it forever. I know there
will those stereotypical, unimaginative, negative-nancies who will try to
do something ridiculous like sue the company bc the veggie burgers
aren’t cooked separately from the beef patties (but BK was upfront
about that from the beginning) and those people literally just have
nothing better to do with their lives than ruin other vegetarians
enjoyment! I love the impossible whopper and think it was a great
addition to the menu!”
