decade have enabled us to have greater
control over the processes of fertilisation,
birth, and infertility.

Family planning enables married couples to


• choose when to or when not to have children
• Take steps to prevent pregnancy during that
time frame
• To ensure that the health of the mother is not
affected by too many pregnancies
• The economic stability of the family can be
maintained.
Preventing pregnancy or contraception is part
of family planning. The method used should
involve one of the following concepts:
• Stop the ovum from being formed
• Stop the sperm from reaching the ovum
• Stop the fertilised ovum from developing in
the uterus
Methods of contraception are :

Natural contraceptive method

Female contraceptive method

Male contraceptive methods
