On account of the fact that Article 87
of the Constitution of Islamic Republic
of Pakistan, read with Article 127,
envisages that the Provincial Assembly
of the Punjab shall have a separate
Secretariat.
Chief Commissioner Office
 The Local Government &
Community Development (LG&CD)
Department has been assigned the
responsibility to implement Punjab
Local Government Act (PLGA)
2019 to achieve the stated
objectives of the Government.

Chief Secretory Office
 The Senior Secretary Assembly is the
administrative in charge of the Secretariat
of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab.
He exercises administrative as well as
financial powers vis-a-vis the Assembly
and its Secretariat. In the performance of
his duties, he is assisted by two Special
Secretaries, One Director General
(Parliamentary Affairs & Research), three
Additional Secretaries and other
supporting Staff. The Secretariat consists
of three basic Divisions;

Functions of Chief Commissioner office:

 The major functions and responsibilities of Local Government & Community

Development Department are:
1. Policy Formulation:
Formulation of public policy and its promulgation; updating of laws, rules and
providing guidelines for the working of local government department. Besides,
LG&CD Department issues policy guidelines on salient issues, in the best interest
of citizens.
2. Coordination:
The Department coordinates with Federal/Provincial Government Departments
and allied agencies as well as all the three tiers of local governments on the issues
pertaining to the new local government system.
3. Administration:
The department is responsible for the recruitments and administration of service
personnel working in its attached departments.
