Case is the form that a noun or
a pronoun takes to show its
relationship to other words in a
sentence.
SUBJECTIVE
CASE
A. The subject of a
verb.
EXAMPLES:
I like classical music.
They called while we
were away.
B. Subject Complement
A personal pronoun used as a
subject complement follows a
linking verbs, usually a form of
the verb be ( am, is are, was,
were be or been.)
Examples:
The winners were
they.
The speaker is she.
OBJECTIVE
CASE
A objective case pronouns-me ,
you, him , her, it, us, and them–
are used as direct objects ,
indirect objects, and objects of
prepositions.
A. Used as the
direct object.
The direct object receives
the action of the verb or
names the result of the
action- it answers what or
whom.
Examples:
1.Ryan surprised them.
2.Uncle Ramon took
me to the Rodeo.
B. Used as the
indirect object.
An indirect object tells to
whom or what or for
whom or what the action
of the verb is done.
Examples:
1. His mother built him a
bookcase.
2. The science teacher gave us
posters of the solar system.
C. Used as
object of the
preposition.
A noun or a pronoun that
follows a preposition is
called the object of the
preposition
Example:
The teacher spoke
to them.
POSSESSIVE
CASE
The personal pronouns in the
possessive case– my, mine, your,
yours, his, her, hers, its, our, ours,
their, theirs– are used to show
ownership or possession.
Examples:
•My CD Player is on the
desk.
•The slice of pizza is mine.
•Yours is in the back room.
