Groups within society
Primary groups
Primary groups are small and characterized by close, personal,
and intimate relationships that last a long time, maybe a lifetime.
Secondary groups
Secondary groups comprise relatively impersonal and
temporary relationships that are goal or task oriented and are
often found in employment or educational settings.
In Groups and Out Groups
◦ In Group-In group is a social group to which person
psychologically identifies as being a member.
◦ Out Group-Out group is a social group with which an
individual does not identify .
Reference Groups
A reference group is a group to which an
individual or another group is compared.
Networks
◦ Network society is the expression coined in 1991 related
to the social, political, economics and cultural changes
caused by the spread of networked,digital information
and communications technology.
