Generic Animal Cell Cardiac Smooth Muscle Cell
Generic Animal Cell
The cardiac muscle cells differs from the generic cell. The cardiac cells shapes are changed from the generic cells.
They have an irregular ‘spindle shape’ while genetic cells have a circular look. These cells also have a higher
amount of mitochondria to create the energy needed to power the heart and the cells. Cells also have intercalated
discs, each disc is attached to the end of the cell and connects it to another. There are also capillaries so oxygen and
proteins can travel through the bloodstream. 1,2

The smooth cardiac muscle cells do have unnamed parts. This includes lysosomes and peroxisome. Peroxisome
and lysosomes break down proteins and fatty tissue these parts are similar in that way. They break down particles
and are not needed in the heart muscle. 3,4,6
Smooth Cardiac Muscle Cell

This cell is part of the circulatory system. 2

The smooth cardiac muscle cell contracts the heart to pump blood. 2

It is striated, can have two centrally located nucleus, discs in the muscle fibers, and finally the abundance of
capillaries allows delivery of oxygen and nutrients. 5
