Background:
We were given this project in class as a way
to learn about the process of osmosis. We
also learned about hypotonic, hypertonic,
and isotonic solutions in relation to osmosis.
Research Objective:
Our research objective is to find out how
vinegar, distilled water, kayro syrup and
skim milk affected the weight of an egg
through osmosis.
Research Question
Does the solution the egg is soaked in hava
an effect on its weight?
Alternative Hypothesis
The egg will gain weight when soaked in
vinegar, distilled water, or skim milk. It will
lose weight when soaked in karo syrup.
Methods
● Day 1: The egg was weighed, observed,
and then put into 300ml of vinegar to soak
overnight.
● Day 2: The egg was removed from the
vinegar. It was weighed, observed, and
put into 300ml of distilled water to soak
overnight.
● Day 3: The egg was removed from the
distilled water. It was weighed, observed,
and put into 300ml of kayro syrup to soak
overnight.
● Day 4: The egg was removed from the
kayro syrup. It was weighed, observed,
and put into 300ml of skim milk.
● Day 5: The egg was removed from the
skim milk. It was weighed, observed, and

Conclusion:
Egg Osmosis Lab 1. Our hypothesis was supported. The egg
gained weight when soaked in vinegar,

when soaked in kayro syrup.
