 What is a Short Story?

 this is a narrative involving

one or more characters,
one plot and one simple
impression.
 ELEMENTS OF FICTION
SHORT STORY
1. Exposition : ideal, situation,
background information
2. Setting : the time, places, the
atmosphere of the story
3. Plot : the author’s organization and
sequencing of events in a story
4. Characters : person that involved
Protagonist, Antagonist, Typical or minor
characters

5. Conflict : the clash or opposition of
characters/forces that stirs : Internal Conflict vs
External Conflict
6. Complication : the escalating
entanglement or criss-crossing
7. Suspense : fictional element makes
curiosity for audiences
8. Crisis : heightened curiosity, uncertainty,
tension is established

9. Climax : the peak of a action or
highest point in a story

10. Resolution : coming after climax

where complications are comprehensibly
settled

 A. NARRATIVE POETRY
 It is a poem which tells a story
that describes important events
 it tells a story through verse.
 it has a plot, characters and
setting
 it features an entire story told by
one narrator from beginning to
end.

 1. EPIC
 this is an extended narrative
about heroic exploits often under
supernatural control.
 Epic tells a stories of historical
events or legend of cultural
importance.
 Example: Lam-Ang; Homer’s –
The Illiad; The Epic of Labaw

 This refers to that kind of poetry
mean to be sung to the
accompaniment of a lyre, but now,
this applies to any type of poetry
that expresses emotions and
feelings of the poet. They are
usually short, simple and easy to
understand.

lines dealing with an
emotion, a feeling, or
an idea.

 this is an emotional piece of
literature which includes a story

 is a type of poetry written in
the form of a speech of an
individual character.

 2. COMEDY
 professional entertainment consisting of jokes,
intended to make an audience laugh.

It is so dramatic, it talks about the death of

the surot.
