INTRODUCTION

 Accessibility to public facility is the easiness by which

people can reach their desired activity. (Hanson, 2009).

 Education is a form of learning in which knowledge, skills

and habits of a group of people are transferred from one
generation to the next through teaching, training and
research.

 Secondary Education is seen as a link between primary

and tertiary education. This stage of education serves as
an instrument to shape and direct a child to a bright future
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
 So much work have been done on accessibility, however,
few research of this nature has been carried out in
education.

 There is problem of inadequacy in the establishment of

government secondary schools and this is caused by
locational inequalities in the location of the few available
schools. (Inobeme, 2012).

 There is inconsistency in turnout between rural and

urban children, which is apparent to be as a result of
economic and social factors, and the problem of
accessibility.
AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The aim of this research is to examine the accessibility of
pupils to public secondary schools in Ife Region.

The objectives of the research are to:

i. Analyse the distributional patterns of public secondary

schools in the study area.

ii. Analyze accessibility level to public secondary schools in

the region.

iii. Examine service areas of secondary schools in the region.

JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY

 Much of the studies on accessibility in Nigeria focused

more on urban areas.

 This research intends to bridge the gap in the literature of

accessibility by focusing on areas with several rural
settlements to analyse the accessibility of pupils to
secondary schools, using Ife Region, Osun State as a case
study
STUDY AREA
 Location: Osun State, Nigeria

4.600ºE)

 Population: 644,729 people

(NPC, 2006)

 Area: 1902km²

 Climate: Humid tropical

rainforest

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK AND LITERATURE REVIEW

 The framework for this study is CENTRAL PLACE

THEORY as put forward by Christaller (1966).

 Concept and measurements of accessibility will also

serve as a guide for this study
