Kalimark Products began in 1958 in Virudhunagar, India and has been run by four generations of the same family. In the 1990s, many local soft drink companies were bought out or driven out of business by aggressive foreign competitors. However, Kalimark was able to maintain a strong presence in Tamil Nadu while other small players exited. Recently, Kalimark has modernized its production technology and redesigned its packaging. While once popular, Kalimark's products began disappearing as Coca-Cola and Pepsi entered the market, but a potential ban on foreign competitors now allows Kalimark to regain market share with a plan for 1,000 crore in revenue by 2020.
