PROJECT SUMMARY
What is hoisting mechanism?
• The mechanism which is used for raising and lowering heavy loads to the desire height by using
comparatively small effort is called as hoist mechanism. It is mostly operated with a system of pulley and
gears (either manually or mechanically) using power electric supply or fuel. Hoist mechanism is particularly
used at construction work for loading and unloading of materials.
• Frequently, it is used for lighting of materials in bulk quantities at various sites. E.g. dams, multi-storeyed
building, bridges, docs etc.

What is block and tackle system? How it works?
• A block and tackle is a system of two or more pulleys with a rope or cable threaded between them, usually
used to lift or pull heavy loads.
• The pulleys are assembled together to form blocks and then blocks are paired so that one is fixed and one
moves with the load. The rope is threaded through the pulleys to provide mechanical advantage that
amplifies the force applied to the rope.
• A block and tackle is characterized by the use of a single continuous rope to transmit a tension force around
one or more pulleys to lift or move a load. Its mechanical advantage is the number of parts of the rope that
act on the load. The mechanical advantage of a tackle dictates how much easier it is to haul or lift the load.

What is crane gearbox (speed reducer)?
• Crane Duty Gear Boxes are the type of gear system which is specifically designed and constructed for wide
range of crane duty applications.
• The crane gearbox is generally known as one type of speed reducer in which it is just lower the speed of prime
mover or a motor.
• Speed reducers are mechanical devices generally used for two purposes. The primary use is to multiply the
amount of torque generated by an input power source to increase the amount of usable work. They also
reduce the input power source speed to achieve desired output speeds.
• In speed reducer the output speed is fixed and which is already calculated while designing
• From the power calculation as shown in report ,
The required speed of rope drum is 9.81 rpm on the basis of calculation
The selected the motor having 23.5 HP with 960rpm so in speed reducer input speed is 960 rpm and output shaft
speed is 9.81 rpm which are fixed.

Features
The rigid housing made up of grained cast iron helps to safely transmit forces and loads
Maximum thermal efficiency owing to large oil reservoir
To ensure accurate tooth contact, parallel bearing bores are maintains
High tolerance
High efficiency even when loaded to full capacity
Precision gearing and accurate bearing alignment enables high efficiency
Anti-friction bearings helps to maintain high efficiency
Positive seals avoid oil leakage during both high speed and low speed.

Right-Angle Bevel Gear Speed Reducers
• When your conveyor needs to maintain operational speeds but around tight corners and 90-degree
angles, this special application speed reducer will do the trick. Due to the directional considerations
though, a maximum of 10 horsepower is all you can expect to get out of one of these gears.
14
What is multistaging speed reducer? Why is used?
• When single stage gear reducer used in application the size of gearbox(speed reducer) will be too large for
obtaining higher gear speed ratio but, the multistage gear speed reducer helps to obtain higher gear ratio
with optimum size of gearbox.
• Following are the advantages of multistage gears speed reducer over single stage speed reducer
