The document is a presentation on the military chain of command given to ROTC students. It defines the chain of command as a system used to issue orders downwards and resolve problems upwards. It explains that if the President wants something done, the order would pass down through multiple levels of command until reaching the individual soldier. Similarly, if a soldier has an issue, it would pass up through the chain of command until resolved. The presentation identifies the specific chain of command that ROTC cadets fall under, starting with themselves and passing upwards through different command levels until reaching the President.

A presentation for MS-1 students, PUP ROTC Unit, SY 2016-2017 Lesson Objectives (Students must be able to --) • DEFINE the military chain of command • RECOGNIZE how the chain of command works • IDENTIFY their position in the chain of command Definition of the Chain of Command
• a system in the military
• used to issue orders (downward) and • to ask for clarification and resolve problems (upward) How does the Chain of Command works? • If the President of the Philippines, as the commander-in- chief, decides that he wants your basic training barracks painted orange… • … he wouldn’t call YOU directly, even though you’re the one who will actually do the work. • Instead, he would call the secretary of defense, who would then call the Chief of Staff, AFP, who would contact the Commanding General Philippine Army… • … and so on until the directive finally reaches your drill instructor, who would then order YOU to paint the barracks. How does the Chain of Command works? • If the Army forgets to pay a SOLDIER this month, he wouldn’t walk directly into Malacañan to complain to the President… • The soldier would speak to his Platoon Sgt who would try to resolve the issue. • If he couldn’t, he’d ask the Platoon Leader for help. If it is still not resolve, he can proceed to the Company Commander. • It goes up until it reaches the Commanding General Philippine Army, the Chief of Staff, AFP and the secretary of defense. The President would be the soldier’s last option. As an ROTC cadet, your Chain of Command is… • ROTC cadet (that’s you) • ROTC Cadet Officers • Tactical NCOs • Tactical Officers • Commandant / NSTP Director • NCRDG Commanding Officer • Commander, Army Reserve Command • Commanding General, Philippine Army • Chief of Staff, AFP • Secretary of Defense • Commander-in-Chief (President of the Philippines) Summary and Conclusion • We DEFINED the military chain of command • We DISCUSSED how the chain of command works • We IDENTIFIED your chain of command • The military chain of command is a unique system that clearly distinguish how our military discipline works. • Be a good follower of the system because someday, you may find yourself on top of it!
