ANSWERS

1. Why do the stickers appear to be moving away

from each other?
The stickers would appear to move away from
each other because as the balloon becomes
inflated, its surface increases, therefore the
stickers which were placed on the flat balloon will
stay where they are as the balloon gets larger.
2. Are the stickers moving accross the
balloon?
The stickers aren't moving accross the
balloon because the stickers just stuck and
stayed in the place where they are being
placed in the first place. Moving accross is
not possible in any way but moving away is.
3. Do the stickers themselves grow in size?
The stickers are not elastic and are attached
prior to the inflating process. So technically,
the stickers didn't grow in size only the
balloon for it is elastic.
Explaination:
When Hubble observed the redshift of the light
coming from stars and galaxies, he realized that
the galaxies were moving away from each other.
He also determined that the farther a galaxy is
from us, the farther it is moving. The galaxies in
the universe behave like the dots on the
expanding balloon. The distance from each dot to
the Home dot increased every time the balloon
expanded. Hubble concluded that the universe is
expanding, just like our balloon expanded.
