TYPES OF

THEATER STAGE
1. PROSCENIUM STAGE
• A stage where the audience
sits on one side only. The
audience faces one side of the
stage directly , and normally
sits at a lower height.
2. THRUST STAGE
• It is the oldest known fixed type of
staging in the world, and it is
thousands of years old. A thrust
theatre stage is known by its
arrangement which consists of being
surrounded by audience on three
sides.
3. END STAGE
• An End stage is the same as the
Thrust stage but in this case the
audience is located only on the
front of the stage and doesn’t
extend around it. “Backstage” is
behind the background wall.
4. TRAVERSE STAGE
• A stage where the audience
sits on two sides. Also, this
type of stage is good for
creating an intimate
atmosphere.
5. IN-THE-ROUND
STAGE
• This type of stage is
positioned at the center of
the audience therefore
there is audience around
the stage.
6. ARENA STAGE
• An Arena stage is characterized
by a central stage surrounded
by audience on all sides. The
stage area is also often raised
to improve sightlines.
7. FLEXIBLE STAGE
• Sometimes called a “Black Box”
theatre, these are often big empty
boxes painted black inside. Stage
and seating not fixed. Instead, each
can be altered to suit the needs of
the play or the whim of the director.
• Theater - The structure within which
theatrical performances are given.
Usually includes an orchestra or
seating area, and a stage.
• Script- is the written version of a
play or movie.
• Scene - A division of an act, in
which a certain portion of the
play unfolds, usually separated
by location or time.
• Director - A person who
oversees the entire process of
staging a production.
• Playwright - The author of a play.
• Artist – a male or female person
who performs a role in a play,
television or movie.
• Stage Crew- the backstage
technical crew responsible for
running the show.
