CLASSIFICATION OF ARTS
CLASSIFICATION OF ART FORMS
• This refers to the main categories of arts
• There are three main classification of art forms
• Visual Arts
• Audio-Visual Arts
• Literary Arts
VISUAL ARTS
• The visual arts are art forms that create works that
are primarily visual in nature and can be perceived
by the eyes.
• There are two types of visual arts:
• Graphic Arts
• Spatial Arts
GRAPHIC ARTS
• This kind of visual arts are also called the 2
dimensional arts wherein they have length and
width.
• They are described as flat arts for they are seen
and created on a flat surface.
• E.g.: Painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and
even computer graphics.
SPATIAL ARTS
• Artworks produced under this form occupy space.
• This kind of visual arts have length, width and
depth/volume (or also known as 3 dimensional)
• E.g.: Sculpture, ceramics, architecture, landscape,
set and theater design

AUDIO-VISUAL ARTS
• Are those forms perceived by both ears (AUDIO) and
eyes (VISUAL)
• This is also called performance arts where most of
the times, there are body or physical movements
• E.g.: Singing, dancing, acting such as in movies and
theater.
VIDEO
LITERARY ARTS
• This art form is presented in written mode and is
intended to be read.
• There are basic types of literature:
• Fiction- novel and short story
• Non-Fiction- essay, new story (editorial and feature)
• Poetry- verse, free verse and narrative poetry

• Aesthetic or Art Appreciation
• Art History
• Art Production
• Art Criticism
AESTHETIC OR ART APPRECIATION
• Aesthetic means the science of beauty or
appreciation of beauty.
• Learns to admire not just the artwork itself but also
the artist and appreciate the role of art in the society.
ART HISTORY
• Acquires knowledge of the artists, their backgrounds
and their masterpieces, and their significant
contributions in the various fields of art.
ART PRODUCTION
• Learns to use one’s creativity and apply their artistic
knowledge and skills in producing their own works of
art.
ART CRITICISM
• Learns to use one’s judgment in evaluating different
artworks based on the set of criteria.
PERFORMANCE TASK
• Based on the discussion about the Principles of Arts, the
students will show a visual art by taking a picture.
The teacher will let the students roam around the school
to look for their subject and take a picture of it.
