› SINR- is not defined in 3GPP however it is a standard

measurement that is left to the UE manufacturer, this is due
to the dependence on receiver and demodulation design of
the individual UE

› Channel Capacity is bound by SINR and bandwidth

RS frequency shifting
› RS frequency shifting avoids RS-to-RS inter-cell
interference
– 6 different shifting patterns, in the case of multiple antenna ports
– Shift pattern known from cell-search procedure
› RSRQ is only measured on RS symbols, hence adjacent
cell interference (which is the main contributor) is not taken
into account

› RSRQ is measured only on the OFDM signals of antenna 0

RS symbols this means it is an indication of the quality of
the reference symbols
– It does not measure PDSCH and PDCCH hence it is not an
indication of end user experience.
– RS shifting masks intersystem interference from adjacent cells
› SINR measures interference across all resource blocks
– interference of the data decoded by the UE and is used to
determine CQI and therefore throughput. It is dependent on UE
manufacturers implementation as there is no standard defined by
3GPP
