Access Classes (AC) – in a nutshell
0
• According to 3GPP, all UEs are members of one out of ten randomly 1
allocated (by operator) mobile populations, 2
defined as Access Classes (AC 0÷9). 3
- UE with AC only from range 0 to 9 is called normal user. 4 - public subscribers ACs
5
• Moreover, UE may be member of one or more out of 5 special categories (AC 11÷15),
then it is called special user.

• The numbers of AC (0÷9 and 11÷15) AC

are stored in the (U)SIM card. USI 9

• Access Class 10 is a parameter of System Information Block (SIB) Type 2 10 - emergency calls AC
- It indicates whether or not network access for Emergency Calls (EC) is allowed for UEs with 11 - PLMN use AC
AC 0÷9 or without an USIM.
12 - Security Services AC
- For UEs with AC 11÷15, ECs are not allowed if both AC 10 and the relevant AC 11÷15 are 13 - Public Utilities AC

Access Class Barring – in a nutshell
• Static AC Barring is activated only manually, and it comprises of four configurable elements:
• WHAT • WHICH
(type of access attempt) (Access Class)
• The same elements exist in automatic Access Class Barring, which is activated by LTE1788
feature.

LTE1047 & LTE1788 features

- If some type of access attempt is forbidden, it means that UE’s cannot access these services
according to:
• probability factor
• barring duration
• Access Class 11÷15 (Special/high priority user)
- Access for AC 11÷15 is defined by string of bits (5bits -1 bit per class)
• 11 12 13 14 15 -1st bit from left for AC 11, 2nd for AC 12, etc.
• value 0 means access allowed, whereas 1 means access forbidden

SIB8 and LTE1635 and LTE1788
• LTE1635 feature introduces dedicated static access class barring for 1xRTT.
• The 1xRTT AC barring information is broadcast as part of the System Information Block 8 (SIB8) to
the UEs.
• UE based on information from SIB2 and SIB8 calculates (according with the formula specified in
3GPP2 C.S0004) the CDMA AC Barring probability factor and determines whether access attempt
is allowed.

• When LTE1788 feature is enabled and eNB enters into OVL2 state, then immediately autoAcBarringStartTimer is
started.

• When triggered, the feature starts an Automatic AC Barring and eNB sends in SIB2 and SIB8 barring criteria.
• All types of access attempts that meet configured criteria (like: what/which/probability factor and barring duration) will
not be admitted.

Trial area selection
• LTE1635 feature requires its prerequisite LTE1441 feature and create proper
structures of parameters.
• LTE1788 feature requires activation flag at the eNB, create proper structures of
parameters and its prerequisite LTE1047 feature (more details you can find on the
next slides).
• To activate LTE2505 proper parameters must be configured.
• The best proving grounds to test these features are on stadium, market square and
station (e.g. train or railway station) – everywhere overload in network is expected
(e.g. due to mass event or type of localization).
