UNTITLED

By Yasmin, Khushel, Nimesh and Viraj

Plot:
The opening sequence begins as the camera slowly pans across the room showcasing photographs of a couple, to
illustrate the characters importance to the movie. The main character in the film is of a girl aged 17 years old. The
camera focuses on her as she gradually begins to fall asleep, when she is suddenly re-woken by a text from her
boyfriend. The text reads
“Hey babe had a great night with you tonight, hope to see you soon, love you xxx”
After reading the text she slowly places the phone onto her beside cabinet and falls back into a deep sleep. She
begins to have a dream of herself in her bathroom getting ready for a party when she notices her boyfriend
standing behind her. Her boyfriend starts to walk towards her and hugs her from behind. The girl steadily turns
around to face her boyfriend just before her body is slammed up against the wall and her face is covered with a
bin bag. Her boyfriend begins to tighten the bag around her neck, suffocating her in the process. The camera
changes to a ‘2 frame shot’ as the scenes switch between the girl being suffocated and fighting for her life, and then
the shot changes to the girl asleep in bed screaming in fear due to the content of her dream. The shots jump
between each other in a fast paced motion. Finally, the camera focuses on the dream as the girl collapses and dies
in the arms of her boyfriend after being suffocated by him. Lastly, the camera shot changes to the girl fast asleep in
bed screaming before she finally stops. Her eyes immediately open in panic and the screen ends with a blackout.
Location:

The location of the film is going to be shot in Nimesh’s bedroom with an en

suite. The main reason why we decided for the opening sequence to be shot in
this particular location is because we believed that it would be a more realistic
setting to shoot in and it would fit in with the genre of our film which is a
combination of a ‘psychological thriller’ and a ‘thriller of murderous
passions.’ Additionally, we decided that we are going to shoot the sequence at
night for the reason that it would create a more suspenseful atmosphere and it
would build up anticipation and fear.

Camera Shots:
Additionally, I decided that the majority of the scenes should
be filmed with dim lighting to darken the movie since I
wanted the film to express the conventions of a ‘horror’ film.
If the lighting appears to be dimmer and the scenarios are
usually filmed during the night it creates a sense of
trepidation and fear as the audience is unsure as to what
events is about to take place and whether they are necessarily
pleasant or not. Furthermore, as each scene flows into one
another demonstrating the use of continuity, the credits
appear glistening against the bleak backdrop in a faint white
typography. As each scene follows on to the next, the letters
fades away from the frame before slowly re-emerging in the
subsequent shot.
Editing:
What is more is that the editing of the film is almost
certainly going to involve cross cutting and continuity
for the reason that I want each scene to flow into one
another elegantly demonstrating the use of continuity
and match on action so that it illustrates how no time has
passed between the shots. In addition, the use of cross
cutting will build up terror and nervousness as the
audience will be unsure and wary as to what is about to
take place in the following scenes. It will hopefully
engage the audience and keep them gripped to the film.
Narrative:

In the background of each individual film, a high pitched, unsettling,

electronic musical sound is heard overpowering the images in the film
sequences. Compared to the images on screen, the melody is clearly
dissimilar. This implies to the audience that there is vast amount of
danger surrounding them. By using fast paced camera shots, dim
lighting and an eerie soundtrack, they all build up to create a terrifying,
unsettling atmosphere to coincide with the genre of ‘horror.’
