Meaning of Teacher Education:

 Teacher education refers to the policies


and procedures designed to equip
prospective teachers with the
knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and
skills they require to perform their tasks
effectively in the classrooms, schools
and wider community
Definitions Of Teacher Education:

 According to NCTE: “A programme of education, research and training


of persons to teach from preprimary to higher education level”.

 According to W.H.Kilpatrick “Teacher education encompasses teaching


skills, sound pedagogical theory and professional skills”.

 Teacher Education = Teaching Skills + Pedagogical skills + Professional


skills.
Objectives Of Teacher Education:

 Imparting an adequate knowledge of the subject matter


 Equipping the prospective teachers with necessary
pedagogic skills
 Enabling the teacher to acquire understanding of child
psychology
