Becoming a prefect is a great way to
end time at your school, and is a
massive advantage for you in the
future. Research shows that many
successful business people held
positions of responsibility while they
were at school, So if you were one of

QUALITIES TO BE A GOOD PREFECT
1. YOU MUST BE COOPERATIVE, HELPFUL AND A
WELL - MANNERED STUDENT, WHO IS TRUSTWORTHY
AND RESPONSIBLE.

2. YOU MUST SHOW RESPECT FOR TEACHERS, YOUR

PEERS AND THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT.

● Be willing to take on extra responsibility
● Complete tasks without a supervision.
● Follow instructions carefully
● Be able to encourage and motivate students to
do good
● You must be positive and enthusiastic when you’re
doing your duties.

7. YOU MUST DEMONSTRATE THAT YOU CAN WORK
INDEPENDENTLY AND AS PART OF A TEAM.

and off school.

13. You should never take advantage to do things because
you’re a prefect, it shows how immature a person is and
it makes you and the school look bad. Also the people
who trust it you to be a good prefect.
14. Treat everyone fairly and don't give advantage to your
friend because you are a prefect.
15. Keep yourself out of trouble and try to give only good
advice to the people who need it.
(keep the bad ones to yourself.)

1. How can I be a good role model?

● Follow and respect the rules and do not break them. If you
feel something is wrong or you are having trouble, ask your
parents or teachers -- they will be able to give you lots of
advices.

2. What should I do if I am a prefect but the students don't
listen to me?
●There will always be natural rebellion from students toward
authority figures but none more so than to one who is in their
own age group and conditions. You will need to impress
upon them that you have authority and responsibilities that
cannot be ignored and that the consequences for failure to
listen are enactment of the rules within your power and/or
discretion. After a few non-listeners end up doing detention
or whatever else you are able to give, they'll begin to listen.
As well, be confident, assertive and willing to tell them off as
needed.

3. What if I see two people fighting?

●The best thing to do is tell a teacher. The reason you

shouldn't help separate the fight is because you might end
up getting in trouble for getting involved. Also, you could
get hurt.

4. Why would a person want to be a prefect?

●People want to be prefects because they want to be an

inspiration to others; they want to be role models.

5. Why is it important to apply for school prefect ?

●It enhances your leadership qualities and helps you

become a stronger and a more responsible person. People
will see you as a role model, so to meet their expectations,
you naturally develop your skills.

6. What is the reason why you might want to be a school

prefect?
●As a prefect, you'll help out in the smooth running of the
school. You also might have good leadership qualities.

7. Why would I want to become a prefect?

●Becoming a prefect has its advantages. Becoming prefect

gives you the chance to help others in ways that you
couldn't before and if you are a good prefect, people look
up to you and want to be like you. You can inspire others
into doing amazing things. It's also a good early taste of
leadership and the responsibilities accompanying that
benefited you.

8. What is the best way for a prefect to settle conflicts?

● Try a countdown from three, loudly. You can even get

serious and try to explain how the students are disturbing
teachers, classes, etc. and the consequences if they keep it
up. They will listen if they understand that there are
consequences unfavourable to them.

9. I want to be a prefect but I'm shy. How can I overcome
this?

●If you can improve your relationships with your friends, and
keep pushing yourself to reach out to new people, you
should be able to combat the shyness.

10. What do prefects do?

● Prefects guide other students, help to organize activities

and communicate student needs to staff members.
