AND EQUIPMENTS
Chess Board
 A chessboard is the type of game board used for the game of chess,
on which the chess pawns and pieces are placed. A chessboard is
usually square in shape, with an alternating pattern of squares in two
colours.
 Traditionally wooden boards are made of unstained light and dark
brown woods. To reduce cost, many boards are made with veneers of
more expensive woods glued to an inner piece of plywood or
chipboard. A variety of colours combinations are used for plastic, vinyl,
and silicone boards.
 In western chess the board has a square shape, with its side being
divided into eight parts, resulting in a total of sixty-four squares.
For variants, the total number of squares may range from nine to one
hundred and twelve. Each individual square of the board can be
identified using chess notation, which may be descriptive, algebraic,
or numeric. For two-dimensional boards, each horizontal row of squares
is called a rank, each vertical column of squares is called a file, and
each oblique line of squares of the same color is called a diagonal.

 Board Notation
The standard contemporary way to record moves and refer to the
squares of the chessboard is algebraic chess notation The files are
identified by the letters a to h, from left to right from the white player's
point of view, and the ranks by the numbers 1 to 8, with 1 being closest
to the white player. Each square on the board is identified by a unique
coordinate pairing, from a1 to h8.
 In the older descriptive chess notation, the files are labelled by the
piece originally occupying its first rank (e.g. queen, king's
rook, queen's bishop), and ranks by the numbers 1 to 8 from each
player's point of view, depending on the move being described. This
method is no longer commonly used. FIDE stopped using descriptive
notation in 1981.

Chess Piece
 A chess piece, or chessman, is any of the six different types of movable objects
used on a chessboard to play the game of chess.
 Number of chess piece
Each player begins with a total of sixteen pieces. The pieces that belong to each
player are distinguished by color. The lighter colored pieces are referred to as
"white," and the player that owns them, "White". The darker colored pieces are
referred to as "black", and the player that owns them, "Black". The word "piece" has
three meanings, depending on the context. Context should make the intended
meaning clear.

o It may mean any of the physical pieces of the set, including the pawns. When used this
way, "piece" is synonymous with "chessman“
o In play, the term is usually used to exclude pawns, referring only to a queen, rook,
bishop, knight, or king. In this context, the pieces can be broken down into three
groups: major pieces (queen and rook), minor pieces (bishop and knight), and the king
o In phrases such as "winning a piece", "losing a piece" or "sacrificing a piece", it refers
only to a bishop or knight. The queen, rook, and pawn are specified by name in these
cases, for example, "winning a queen", "losing a rook", or "sacrificing a pawn“

 King
The king (♔,♚) is the most important piece in the game of chess. The
object of the game is to threaten the opponent's king in such a way
that escape is not possible (checkmate). If a player's king is threatened
with capture, it is said to be in check, and the player must remove the
threat of capture on the next move. If this cannot be done, the king is
said to be in checkmate, resulting in a loss for that player. Although the
king is the most important piece, it is usually the weakest piece in the
game until a later phase, the endgame. Players cannot make any
move that places their own king in check.

 Queen
 The queen (♕, ♛) is the most powerful piece in the game of chess,
able to move any number of squares vertically, horizontally
or diagonally. Each player starts the game with one queen, placed
in the middle of the first rank next to the king. Because the queen is
the strongest piece, a pawn is promoted to a queen in the vast
majority of cases.

 Rook
 The rook (♖,♜) is a piece in the game of chess resembling a castle .
Formerly the piece was called the tower, marquess, rector,
and comes. The term castle is considered informal, incorrect, or old-
fashioned.
 Each player starts the game with two rooks, one on each of the
corner squares on their own side of the board.
Chess Piece
 Bishop
 The bishop (♗,♝) is a piece in the game of chess. Each player
begins the game with two bishops. One starts between the king's
knight and the king, the other between the queen's knight and
the queen. The starting squares are c1 and f1 for White's bishops,
and c8 and f8 for Black's bishops.

 Knight
 The knight (♘,♞) is a piece in the game of chess, representing
a knight (armored cavalry). It is normally represented by a horse's
head and neck. Each player starts with two knights, which begin on
the row closest to the player, between the rooks and bishops.

 Pawn
 The pawn (♙,♟) is the most numerous piece in the game of chess, and in most
circumstances, also the weakest. It historically represents infantry, or more particularly,
armed peasants or pikemen. Each player begins a game with eight pawns, one on
each square of the rank immediately in front of the other pieces. (The white pawns
start on a2, b2, c2, d2, e2, f2, g2, h2; the black pawns start on a7, b7, c7, d7, e7, f7,
g7, h7.)
 Individual pawns are referred to by the file on which they stand. For example, one
speaks of "White's f-pawn" or "Black's b-pawn". Alternatively, they can be referred to
by the piece which stood on that file at the beginning of the game, e.g. "White's king
bishop's pawn" or "Black's queen knight's pawn". It is also common to refer to a rook's
pawn, meaning any pawn on the a- or h-files, a knight's pawn (on the b- or g-files),
a bishop's pawn (on the c- or f-files), a queen's pawn (on the d-file), a king's pawn (on
the e-file), and a central pawn (on the d- or e-files).
Chess Clock
 A chess clock consists of two adjacent clocks with buttons to stop
one clock while starting the other, so that the two clocks never run
simultaneously. Chess clocks are used in chess and other two-
player games where the players move in turn. The purpose is to
keep track of the total time each player takes for their own moves,
and ensure that neither player overly delays the game.
Chess Score Sheet
 Classical chess tournaments require both players to keep score, but
it's a good idea to write down your moves for all your games if you
have time. Not only is this good practice for competitive chess; it
also lets you analyze your own games later on. Don't miss the
chance to relive your brilliant tactics or learn from your agonizing
mistakes.
Chess Table
 A chess table is a table, made up of wood or any material. It has the
features to make it useful for playing the game of chess. A chess
board is usually integral to the table top and often two drawers are
provided to hold the pieces when not in use. Chess tables can be
extremely decorative, well made and potentially expensive pieces
of furniture in colonial India. The most chess tables have the board
inlaid or engraved though cheaper tables may have it painted on.
A chess table is not necessary to play chess and is not restricted only
to playing chess.
Chess Box
 Chess box is a container for holding chess pieces. It is most
commonly made of wood. But some of the chess boxes are made
up of plastic. The internal box configuration can be individual slots
for each chess piece, one divider to separate the white and black
pieces or no divider with the chess pieces mixed together. The
external chess box is typically rectangular in shape, but can be
done in a variety a shapes including a coffer top or sliding drawers.
