ABSTRACT
The data gathered from the traffic flow theory is an important tool required
for planning and operation of a road system.
Now days, due to rapid increase in traffic flow the designed speed on
highways could not be maintained resulting target point.
The knowledge of traffic volume is an important basic input required for
planning, analysis and operation of roadway systems.
A significant effort has been made in order to study the Traffic Volume of
Tirupathi.
For better understanding of the present status of traffic flow at the junction,
traffic survey is conducted.
The safe and time efficient movement of the people and goods is dependent
on Traffic flow, which is directly connected to the traffic characteristics.
In Traffic Flow we have to consider generally three parameters, Volume,
Speed, and Capacity.
INTRODUCTION
Transportation is carrying civilization to a brighter future.
Now a day’s transportation is one of the most burning issues in every territory of the
world.
Flow Characteristics comprises of traffic volume, speed and composition of vehicles
on tirupathi roads.
In recent times there has been a massive increase in population and economic
behavior thus resulting in huge travel demand of the traffic.
The data gathered from the traffic volume and speed studies is used to determine the
capacity and the LOS (level of service) for the given road.
 Traffic volume are conducted to determine the number of vehicle at given location
volume is simply the number of vehicles passing a section of a roadway.
It is calculated by the number of vehicle passing section of a road by the regular
time intervals.
Heterogeneous traffic addressed by converting different types of vehicle in
passenger cars equivalent & its volume can be expressed passenger car unit (PCU)
Per hour.
LITERATURE REVIEW
 Peerzada Mosir Shah et.al., (2016)-This paper represents the traffic
condition on the Jalandhar-Phagwara Road (NH1) and the analysis of
capacity, spot speeds with their limits and volume counts during the
peak and off peak hours. They study gives recommendations for
improvement of Level of Service (LOS) of the highway within
appropriate limits for better operation of traffic on the roads.

 Meruga Siva Parvathi et.al., (2017)-Their results from the study are
helpful in controlling the traffic at the intersection and also in
suggesting some of the remedial measures to improve the traffic safety
in the region. Remedial measures such as widening the road, by
providing more public transport can be recommended based on the
outcomes of the works.
LITERATURE REVIEW
 Md. Ahsan Habib et.al., (2018)- They are study four parts:
investigation of the roads and lanes, determination of the existing
condition of the highway, collection of the traffic data and finally
analyzing of the data are found. From they study it has been seen that
the main vehicle percentage of that highway is truck. It also found that
volume of the traffic in Sylhet-Dhaka route is greater than that of in
the Dhaka-Sylhet route.
 Raj Pratap Singh et.al., (2018)-They are calculating Passenger Car
Units (PCU’s) for different vehicle types had been made. For a wide
range of traffic volume and roadway conditions indicate that the PCU
value of a vehicle significantly changes with change in traffic volume
and width of roadway. some of the remedial measures to improve
their traffic safety in the region such as widening the road, changing
4-lane to 6-lane or by providing more public transport can be
recommended based on the outcomes of the work.
SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES OF
PRESENT STUDY
The specific objectives of the project work are as follow:
The main purpose of this study is to understand the traffic
flow characteristics of tirupathi.
To collect traffic data for different parameters like traffic
volume, speed and capacity.
To determine the traffic volume passing in and out to the
given area.
How to diminish the traffic through different ideas.
