Thesis – Review III
FUNDAMENTAL IDEAS AND DESIGN THEORY CONCEPT

Objective - To induce an adequate knowledge about

formulating a word based design theory/ idea into a design
solution.

1. Design Philosophy and metaphors

2. Comprehensive design solution based on the context
3. Aspects related to building parameters and bye-laws
4. Macro and micro level planning
5. Relate to the essential fundamental character of the
context
6. Orthogonal projections of the proposed built environment
7. Thrust area / Core focus
8. Concept Model

Outcome – Students should be able to conclude the qualitative needs of the

project and associate it to quantitative aspects of design to initiate a
methodology that will culminate as a design solution.
Thesis – Review IV
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Objective – To blend qualitative aspects of design and

quantitative aspects of design by defining utility of spaces
and the quality of the spaces designed innovatively with
reference to design ideas and into a built form .

1. Site planning
2. Detailed spatial layout
3. Massing and character
4. Functional problem solving
5. Design intent and its output validation

Outcome – Students should analyze the various spatial

quality and its impact on the intended activity that will be housed in
the built form.

DESIGN DETAILING

Objective- To make the students understand the methodology

of converting architectural design ideas to Architectural drawing and
details that will enhance the quality of the space to the last micro
detail.
1. Detailed architectural layouts
2. Working Drawings, Schedules of Finishes & Joineries,
Specifications
2. Modulating the functional spaces
3. Architectural parameters to enhance the quality of space
4. To make all built form coherent
5. Exterior scapes and services
6. Detailing building services
7. Views and Walkthroughs

Outcome – students should understand that converting an

Architectural conceptual design into reality needs more clarity in
construction technology, including services into the fabric and
constantly questioning the relevance of each and every detail of the
MOCK VIVA

Objective- To enable students to prepare for the

rigorous crit/viva and to develop an empowering
experience.

1. Summation of data collected

2. Research and conclusions
3. Design drawing Presentations
4. 3-D digital Images
5. Project Report
(Hard Bound – 3 copies, 2 B/W +1-colour)
6. Detailed Physical Architectural Model

Expected outcome- Students should acquaint themselves

with all factors that have to be considered while presenting the
project in a coherent order and to structure the entire project, to
achieve perfection in the completion of project.
FINAL VIVA
UNIVERSITY CRIT/VIVA/PRESENTATION
Objective- This is the method of reviewing the design work and
the process through which the design unfolds as a culmination of
five years of Architectural study.

1. Summation of data collected

2. Research and conclusions
3. Design drawing Presentations
4. Design drawing details
5. 3-D digital Images
6. 3-D digital Walk through
7. Physical model
8. Project Report

Outcome- A successful student’s presentation ties

together the visual and the verbal presentations of the project in
one cohesive narration and trains them in handling projects
independently.

Students’ Guideline

1. Each student is allotted with a Guide to monitor

and systemize the thesis project.

2. The students are required to lay down the strategy

and get the approval on the tactics to approach and
complete the thesis in a system method.

3. A thesis plan for each student has to be prepared by

the student in consultation with the guide that has to be
adhered to by the students up to the final submission.

4. The students are advised to discuss with the guides on

the method of collecting data & the presentation.
5. The students are advised to meet the respective guides
minimum three days a week.

6. Student has to append their signature in the register

as
and while meeting the guides.

7. A student progress file containing notes/comments &

photo copy of summary of respective stage
document will be maintained by the respective guides.

8. The student has to appear before the review panel

consisting of two external practicing architects,
Principal, HOD, Thesis coordinator, Thesis
supervisor and the respective student guide allotted to
them on the respective days in attendance order.
9. The student has to meet the guide with all contents for
the stage of review two days prior to the review day
and plan the sequence of their presentation for the
review.

10. The student has to follow the Thesis Plan strictly and
adhere to the submission content schedule and
presentation method with diligence.

11. The students are advised to record the comments

from the review and maintain the same for
reference for the following review.
12. The assessment mark from the external and the
guide will be consolidated to form the continuous
internal assessment mark.

13. The students are advised to read widely, collect data

extensively and commence the design work early, to
be ahead to produce a noteworthy thesis.

14. All the presentations to be shared online through
