WHY IS THEIR

UNIVERSAL
VALUES
ETHICS 01
Universal Values: Definition
VALUES-a person’s principles or standards of
behaviour; one’s judgment of what is important in
life.
UNIVERSAL VALUES
Valuing things is based on human needs.
Valuing behaviours arises from the things we
value.
But more than one behaviour can attain an end
What does Universal means?

Universal= All human beings

Universal= All cultures
Universal= All religions
Universal= All legal And Political systems
Universal values as behaviours

Do not harm others

Do not cheat others
Do not lie to others
Do not enslave others
The five core human values:
RIGHT CONDUCT
PEACE
TRUTH
LOVE
NON-VIOLENCE
Right Conduct
Information is received through the five senses
smell, taste, sight, touch and hearing. When this
information is referred to the conscience, the resulting
action will be beneficial.
A pair of cherries is used to
symbolise Right Conduct,
because they look like a pair of
arms and legs.
Peace
We smile when we are happy and contented.
Contentment is gained when we cease to want for
ourselves all the apparent 'good' things conveyed to us
through our five senses. When our willpower is sufficiently
strong to enable us to discern the difference between real
needs and superfluous desires, we cease to be driven by the
urge to own more and more things.

A Pear is used to symbolise Peace,

because the spelling is similar.
Truth
The desire to know truth has prompted mankind
to ask some of the great questions such as:
 Who am I?
 What is the purpose of life?
 How can I know my inner self/ God/ the Creator of the universe?
 How can I live fully in the present moment?

An apple is used to symbolise

Truth, because it was related to
truth in the Adam and Eve story.
Love
Love is not an emotion, affected by the
sub-conscious mind, but is a spontaneous,
pure reaction from the heart.
A strawberry is used to
symbolise Love, because it is
a fruit shaped like a heart and
has sweetness.
Non-Violence
For the non-violent person, the whole world is his
family. When the former four values are practised (i.e.
the conscious mind is keenly aware, love is flowing,
there is peace and actions are right) life is lived without
harming or violating anything else.
A bunch of grapes is used to symbolise Non-
violence, as the four values of Right Conduct,
Peace, Truth and Love, collectively, when put
into practice, will culminate in Non-violence,
so this bunch of fruit is used to symbolise
unity.
WHY THERE ARE UNIVERSAL
VALUES?
Why universal values are necessary for
human survival?
The universal values is clearly evident that we need for us
human beings to survive because it informs us our thoughts, actions
and words. Universal values is helping us to grow our everyday as a
dignified person, it help us also to develop our skills, talents and
human dignity. Universal values also helping us to create better future.
Each one of us are entitled and well involved in making right decisions
every day.
