CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
Rationale and Background of the Study
Dating relationships starts earlier than expected nowadays.
According to the teen dating relationship survey, nearly three to
four teens say boyfriend or girlfriend relationship usually begin at
the age of 14 or younger.
Conceptual Framework
Engaging in an early relationship can affect the teens’ behavior.
It can either break them or make them a stronger person.The
respondents has their different reasons why they are engaging in an
early relationship.
Theoretical Framework
Being in a relationship changes teens. “Some people change
who they are to make someone stay with them,” .“They take their
anger out on their family and friends,” (Acosta, 2009).
Maturity, Teens are in the transition from child to adult. Dating
helps them to feel independent and mature. It is a step forward into
“grown-up” behavior. (Nefer, 2011)

The purpose of this research is to point out perception of senior high school students
as regards to engaging in an early relationship.
1. What are the reasons why students enter in an early relationship?
2. What are the reasons why students are not in a romantic
relationship?
3. Is there a significance difference between male and female
respondents when it comes to engaging in an early relationship?
Definition of Terms
Perception –
a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental
impression.
Engaging –
Tending to draw favorable attention or interest.
Early-
Occurring before the usual or expected time.
Relationship –
A state of affairs existing between those having relations or dealings.A romantic
or passionate attachment.
Enter –
To come or gain admission.To go upon land for the purpose of taking possession.
Romantic –
Marked by expressions of love or affection.
Significance of the Study
This study is all about the perception of senior high school students as regards to
engaging in an early relationship, the beneficiaries of the research will be the following:
*Students will benefit from this study.
*Parents will benefit from this study.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study


This study is all about the perception of senior high school students as regards to
engaging in an early relationship. In this study we will understand and be aware of the
things why students enter in an early relationship.
CHAPTER II
RELATED LITERATURE

Dating relationships starts earlier than expected nowadays.


According to the teen dating relationship survey, nearly three to four
teens say boyfriend or girlfriend relationship usually begin at the age
of 14 or younger. The majority of teens have been involved in a
romantic relationship, and almost one-half of teens reported that they
have had at least one sexual experience. Learning more about how
teens view these kind of relationships can provide insights that can
help policy program providers, makers, parents, and others promote
healthy youth development in general and address the problems of
early pregnancy, that is alarming that the number of teenage mothers
is increasing, from 7.1 percent in 2000 to as high as 11.7 percent in
2010 (Taradji, 2012) and STDs in particular.
