 SORT OUT THE ITEMS AND DISCARD THE
UNWANTED
› Make a list of all the items in the department.
› The list should include raw material, wip,
finished product, tools, tackles, dust bin,
facilities like chair, table, bins etc. nothing
should be left unlisted.
› Appropriate authority should decide which
items can be disposed off and which items
need to be kept in the department.
› Items marked for disposal should be disposed
off in a safe manner.
 PLACE FOR EVERY THING
› After disposing unwanted material, provide
appropriate place for every item that has to be
kept in the department.
› While providing the place the ergonomic factors
and safety aspects have also to be considered.
› Place for movement of men and material should
also be provided.
› Place should be distinctly identified and marked.
› Place for display of instructions, posters etc.
should lso be identified.
 CLEAN THE PLACE THOROUGHLY AND
KEEP EVERY THING IN IT’S PLACE.
› Clean every thing including material, floor,
containers, walls, windows etc.
› If necessary painting also should be done.
› While painting follow colour codes wherever
applicable.
› Insist on regular cleaning at the end of the
work
 Maintain high standards of housekeeping
at workplace at all times.
› Ensure that people keep the items at
designated place after it’s use.
› If possible, design the system such that if
some thing is missing from the place, it is

TYPES OF FLOOR CLEANING
1. SWEEPING – removing dirt and trash from
floors using sweepers and dust pan
2. DUST MOPPING – dusting away dirt on floors
using mops.
3. DAMP MOPPING – mopping the floor with
lightly wet mop to clear the floor of dirt
and soil.
4. SPRAY BUFFING– spraying the floor with a
buff finish to retouch it and to keep the
gloss

5. PLAIN POLISHING – retouching the shine of
floors by polishing with a polisher.
6. FLOOR STRIPPING – requires application of
stripping solution.
7. FINISHING FLOORS – accomplish through
application of wax or floor shine and
polishing thereafter using a floor polisher.
8. EXTRACTION – process of extracting deeply
embedded dirt and soil in carpets.

9. SHAMPOOING – removal of embedded dirt,
and stains using carpet shampoo either
manually or by the use of machine.
10. VACUUMING – elimination of embedded
dirt on floors using a vacuum cleaner.

2. Start cleaning the tiles, shower, down to
the bathtub.
3. Clean and sanitize the toilet bowl.
4. Scrub the faucet, lavatory sink, stopper,
floor tiles, and shower curtains.
5. Clean the bathroom wall.
6. Clean the mirror.
7. Wash the drinking glasses.
8. Clean the shelves and cabinet.
9. Polish all the chrome fixtures.
10. Clean the lavatory stopper and rinse it
with water.
11. Rinse the lavatory sink.
12. Dry and polish the faucet and lavatory
sink.
13. Install the faucet knobs.
1. Wet the surface.
2. Apply all purpose cleaner.
3. Rinse the surface.
4. Dry and polish the surface.
1. Flush the toilet bowl.
2. Pour the toilet bowl cleaner.
3. Leave the toilet bowl cleaner to soak at
least 2 minutes.
4. Clean the toilet bowl.
5. Flush it again.
6. Clean the toilet seat and cover.

3. Apply cleaner- solution to all corners
and wall.
4. When cleaning glasses, apply glass
cleaner like “glance” to make it look
shinier.
