Family history of the disease. Hispanics have higher


incidence rates of ESRD
than non-Hispanics.
Symptoms

Hematuria Signs of uremia


Flank pain Lethargy and fatigue
Edema Loss of appetite
Hypertension
If asymptomatic may have elevated serum creatinine
concentration or an abnormal urinalysis
Morphological Changes
Fibrosis

Loss of renal cells mainly by apoptosis

Infiltration by monocytes and/or macrophages
