HISTORY

Near Central Indian city Indore the British army


head quarter was at MHOW during late 19th century
. Construction of huge building now known as Footi
Kothi was started by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar at
the end of city Indore towards MHOW. The aim was
to secure Indore from British army . Locals believe
that there is secret underground tunnel from Footi
Kothi to MHOW. British officers stopped the
construction Midway , since then it is known as Footi
Kothi.

23 kms from Indore is the Military Headquarters Of
War (MHOW) which was supposedly the war
management centre of the British during the World
War. Presently one of India’s most prestigious
military training establishments for senior and
higher commands, the whole cantonment is
beautifully landscaped.
TIMELINE
In south west direction to a some distance Hawa Mahal
construction is started by maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar . In this
building ,huge and heavy stones are thought to be used for making
huge construction.
In the first phase of building construction square roof, balcony ,
wired windows were done.
From all the four directions natural beauty covered this Hawa
Mahal in which maharaja spent one lakh rupees but its
construction was left as incomplete in between.
This incomplete building in Indore was known as FOOTI KOTHI by
everyone.
Its incomplete construction has no known reason ,but it is
assumed to be that it is stopped from constructing due to under
pressure of British resident because from here MHOW ‘s is visible
and can become a part of Holkar’s war.
Slowly slowly this building is converted into empty building.
It is said that the stones which were brought for its construction
have been used for different construction work.
It is easily reachable by local transport
from anywhere in the city. There is no
entry fees for visitors. It is two story
structure having nearly 365 rooms and
18 temples.
