KASHMIR
• Kashmir is the northernmost geographical region
of the Indian subcontinent.
• Kashmir is known as land of heaven.
• The Mughals called Kashmir ‘Paradise on Earth’
where they journeyed across the hot plains of
India, to the cool valleys in summer.
• It is located mostly in the Himalayan mountains,
and shares borders with the states of Himachal
Pradesh and Punjab to the south.
• Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in India
with a Muslim-majority population.
FLAG
• The flag of Jammu and Kashmir is the official
flag of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in
northern India. It consists of a deep red field,
representing labour, charged with a plough to
represent agriculture. Three stripes are found
on the hoist side and represent the three
geographic regions of the state: Jammu,
the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh.
CONSTITUTION
• The Constitution of India grants special status
to Jammu and Kashmir among Indian states, and it is
the only state in India to have a separate constitution
• Article 370 of the Constitution of India states
that Parliament of India and the Union
Government jurisdiction extends over limited matters
with respect to State of Jammu and Kashmir.
• Till 1965, the head of state in Jammu and Kashmir was
styled Sadr-e-Riyasat, whereas in other state, the title
was Governor, and head of government was
styled Prime Minister in place of Chief Minister in other
states.

• The Kashmir region has a total area of 206,552
square miles (332,413 square kilometers),
which is bigger than California
• As per 2011 census population was 1.25
crores
Demography
• Jammu and Kashmir is the solitary Indian state
with a more prominent Muslim population.
According to the 2011 list, Islam is followed by
around 68.3% of the population, while 28.4%
belong to Hinduism, Sikhism (1.7%), Buddhism
(0.7%) and Christians (0.5%). Around 96.4% of
the people in the Kashmir valley is Muslim,
trailed by Hindus and Sikhs. Shia population
out here is 15 Lakhs in Jammu and Kashmir,
which is 14% of entire state population.
CAPITAL
• Srinagar is the summer capital of kashmir.
• Srinagar is one of the most beautiful place of
Kashmir. Srinagar is located in the heart of the
Kashmir valley spread on both sides of the
river Jhelum.

DAL LAKE
• It is the second largest lake in the state, and is
integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir
and is named the "Jewel in the crown of
Kashmir" or "Srinagar's Jewel".
• The shore line of the lake, is about 15.5
kilometres (9.6 mi)

TULIP GARDEN
• Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip garden.
• It is spread over 30 hectares and boasts 48
varieties of tulips growing from over 1.5
million bulbs.
• It is Asia’s largest tulip garden
GULMARG
• Gulmarg is a famous hill station which is situated
in the Pir Panjal Range in the western Himalayas.
• The resort was named Gulmarg ("meadow of
flowers") by Sultan Yusuf Shah of the Chak
Dynasty who frequented the place with his queen
Habba khatoon in the 16th century.
• It is popular for skiing, trekking, golfing, mountain
biking as well as horse riding.
• Gulmarg has also won the award of the second
highest cable car around the world.
MUGHAL GARDENS
• There are various Mughal gardens in Kashmir
but Nishat and Shalimar are the most famous
one.
• Both of the gardens are situated on the bank
of Dal Lake
• Both of the gardens were one of the
favourites of Mughal emprors
PAHALGAM
• Pahalgam is a tourist town and a notified area
committee in Anantnag district of
the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
• It is a popular tourist destination and hill
station
• Pahalgam is associated with the
annual Amarnath Yatra.
SONAMARG
• Sonmarg (translation: "Meadow of Gold") is a hill
station in Ganderbal district in the Indian
state of Jammu and Kashmir about 80 km north-
east of Srinagar.
• It is a popular tourist destination, nestled within
the imposing Himalayan peaks.
• It lies at an altitude of 2800 m above sea level.
• Sonmarg is a city with a significant rainfall. Even
in the driest month there is a lot of rain. The
average temperature in Sonmarg is 6.5 °C. About
932 mm of precipitation falls annually.
