Meaning of Gurukul Learning
“GURU” refers to one who dispels the darkness of
ignorance i.e. the teacher “KULA” refer to family .
Thus , Gurukul is an ancient Indian concept of
education, wherein the student imbibed knowledge by
residing with his Guru as a part of his family.

Advantages Of Gurukul System Of Learning

Round Development .
◦ They Got A Practical And In-depth Look Into Life .
◦ Children From All Classes Of Society Lived Under The Gurukul
Roof As Brother.
◦ They Were Taught Proper Manner And Values That Life Is Based On.
◦ They Were Taught Respect For Elder , Mother, Father, And Teacher.
◦ The Gurukul Was A Comprehensive Learning Center .
Disadvantages Of Gurukul System Of Learning

 Female Student Were Not Admitted To The Gurukul.


 There Was No Standard Syllabus
 The Shishyas Had To Leave Their Home, Their Loved
Ones And Come And Stay At Gurukul . This Was A Great
Sacrifice
 Discrimination In Term Of Castes And Whims At The
Time Of Admission In The Gurukul.
