FUEL CELL USING

ELECTRICAL VEHICLE
OBJECTIVES
• To design the fuel cell based electric vehicle
• To analyze the performance of the electric
vehicle with its output obtained
• To evaluate the metrics to be obtained with the
fuel cell
ABSTRACT
• The energy management strategy plays a major role in
hybrid platforms powered by fuel cells (FCs) and
batteries.
• This paper deals with a sizing and Energy Management
Strategy (EMS) of a hybrid source composed by a Fuel
Cell as a main source and battery pack as a secondary
one for automotive application.
• The fuel cell is connected via a DC/DC boost converter
to DC link and a bidirectional DC/DC converter is used
to connect the batteries to the DC link.
INTRODUCTION
• Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicles (FCHVs) is a
promising technology able to reduce the total fuel
consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and
achieve strictly zero exhaust pipe emissions.
• For the same performance, hydrogen fuel cell
vehicles are likely to be simpler in design, lighter,
more energy efficient, and less expensive than
methanol or gasoline fuel cell vehicles.
• Moreover, the tailpipe emissions will be strictly
zero under all operating conditions
EXISTING SYSTEM
• Concerning the criteria chosen to develop and
adjust the EMS, minimization of fuel
consumption is the most widely used election,
as shown in the previous works.
• It is because, in most hybrid platforms, the
operating costs associated with fuel
consumption represent a highest percentage
among the overall cost
DRAWBACKS
• Electric fuelling stations are still in the
development stages
• Electric cars can also be a hassle on your
energy bill if you're not considering the
options carefully.
• Short Driving Range and Speed
PROPOSED SYSTEM
• The main aims of the energy management in
fuel cell-based systems are to reduce the
hydrogen consumption and to improve the
dynamic behaviour.
• Effectively, the fuel cell efficiency is
dependent on the power load, being strongly
degraded at low powers.
• Besides, the transient response of the fuel cell
generated power is tested using the variety of
controller simulated
MODEL OF PROJECT
DESIGN OF THE PROJECT
EVALUATION METRICS
• Analysis of converter
• Analysis of battery
• Efficiency and performance of fuel cell
• Performance investigation with the controllers as
– Proportional and integral controllers (PI Controller)
– Proportional and derivative controllers (PD Controller)
– Proportional integral derivative control (PID
Controller)
ADVANTAGES
• Fuel cells have a higher efficiency than diesel
or gas engines.
• Most fuel cells operate silently, compared to
internal combustion engines.
• Fuel cells can eliminate pollution caused by
burning fossil fuels; for hydrogen fuelled fuel
cells, the only by-product at point of use is
water.
APPLICATIONS
• Fuel cells can be used to power the
– electric motor of buses
– utility vehicles
– and electric scooters
