NORTHERN MINDANAO
Region 10, usually called Northern Mindanao,
is composed of 5 provinces:
• Bukidnon
• Camiguin
• Lanao del Norte
• Misamis Occidental
• Misamis Oriental

NORTHERN MINDANAO
The whole region covers
a total land area of
19,279.60 sqr km. with a
total population of 4.297
million as of the 2010 Census.
It has 84 municipalities and
about 2,020 barangays.
LOCATION
Bounded on the North
by Bohol Sea, on the East by
the Provinces of Agusan del
Norte and Sur on the South
by Davao del Norte, and on
the West by the Provinces
of Zamboanga del Sur and
Lanao del Sur
PEOPLE
The vast majority
of the region's
inhabitants are migrants
from Cebu and Bohol.
Some inhabitants are of
Waray, Tagalog and
Maranao descent.
ECONOMY
The economy in
Northern Mindanao is
mainly agricultural, but
there is also a booming
growth of industries
particularly in Cagayan de
Oro City and in Iligan
City.
CLIMATE

Located outside the typhoon belt area; rainfall


evenly distributed throughout the year. Vegetation,
natural springs and high elevations are factors that
make the region's climate cool and invigorating.

BUKIDNON
The province of Bukidnon
is subdivided into 20
municipalities and 2 cities.
Its capital is Malaybalay City.
The name "Bukidnon" means
highlander or mountain
dweller. Bukidnon is
considered to be the food
basket of Mindanao
GEOGRAPHY
Bukidnon is a landlocked
plateau in North Central
Mindanao. It is bounded on the
north by Misamis Oriental and
Cagayan de Oro; on the south
by North Cotabato and Davao
City; on the east by Agusan del
Sur and Davao del Norte; and
west by Lanao del Sur.
POPULATION
According to the
2015 Census of Population
by the National Statistics
Office (NSO) The
Bukidnon has a total
population of 1,415,226
residents
LANGUAGE

The lingua franca of the region is Cebuano. Also


spoken, although at low percentages, are Higaonon,
Bukid, Ilianen, Matigsalug, Hiligaynon, Maranao,
Iranun, Ilocano, and Waray. English is generally
understood and is widely used in schools, business
and government offices.
CLIMATE
Two types of climate between the Northern
and Southern sections of Bukidnon

•Northern Bukidnon - Type II (No Rain Period)


•Southern Bukidnon – Type III (No Dry Season)
ECONOMY
Bukidnon is an
agricultural economy. It is a
major producer of rice, maize,
sugar, coffee, rubber, pineapple,
banana, tomato, flowers,
cassava, and other fruits and
vegetables. It is also a major
producer of poultry, hogs,
goats and cattle.

CAMIGUIN
CAMIGUIN
The name Camiguin is derived from the native
word “Kamagong”, a tree of the Ebony family that
thrives near Lake Mainit in the Province of Surigao
del Norte.
The original inhabitants of Camiguin were
“Manobos” who migrated from Surigao. The old
native language in Camiguin is called “Kinamiguin”,
which is similar to the dialect spoken in Surigao.
CAMIGUIN

Camiguin is the second-smallest province in


the country in both population and land area after
Batanes.
The provincial capital is Mambajao, which is
also the province's largest municipality in both area
and population
GEOGRAPHY
Camiguin Island lies in the
northwest coast of Mindanao. It
is part of a geopolitical grouping
of provinces comprising Region
X or Northern Mindanao.
Other provinces of Region X
are Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental,
Misamis Oriental and Lanao del
Norte
POPULATION
The population of
Camiguin in the 2015
census was 88,478 people,
with a density of 370
inhabitants per square
kilometre or 960
inhabitants per square
mile.
LANGUAGE

The language spoken is Visayan, the culture is


neither of the Visayas nor Mindanao.
CLIMATE

Camiguin has a mild climate with average


temperatures 26-28°C. January is the coldest
month with temperatures going down to 24°C.
March and April are the hottest months with up to
33°C
ECONOMY
The economy is based
upon fishing and farming, with
copra providing the greatest
income contribution. Lanzones
has since then became the main
agricultural product of the
island province. Agricultural
products are abaca, rice,
mangoes and other fruit trees

LANAO DEL NORTE

The term "Lanao" is derived from a


Maranao word "Ranao" meaning a body of
water. "Meranau" means lake dweller. They
are the natives of the place occupying the land
around Lake Lanao, which is situated at the
central part of Lanao del Sur.
GEOGRAPHY
Lanao del Norte is a rugged
province that ranges from the
coastal shorelines in the north to
the high plateaus and mountains
in the south. Lanao del Norte
covers a total area of 3,346.57
square kilometres (1,292.12 sq
mi) occupying the southwestern
section of the Northern
Mindanao region in Mindanao.
POPULATION
According to the 2015
census, the province has a
total population of 676,395
people. Situated within Lanao
del Norte is the highly
urbanized city of Iligan, which
is governed independently
from the province.
LANGUAGE

The main languages are Maranao and


Cebuano, with the latter being the native language of
majority of the citizens of the province.
CLIMATE

The climate here is tropical. Lanao Del Norte


has a significant amount of rainfall during the year. The
average annual temperature is 26.4 °C. About 3128
mm of precipitation falls annually.
ECONOMY
The economy in Lanao del
Norte is predominantly based on
agriculture and fishing.
Factories are mostly based in
Iligan City. Lanao del Norte is the
Home of Agus Power plants 4-7
that stretch from Balo-i to Iligan
City. It serves major parts of
power supply in Mindanao.
Tourism is also a growing
economy in the province.

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL

The name ‘Misamis’ is believed to have been


derived from the Subano word ‘Kuyamis’ which is a
variety of sweet coconut – the staple food of the
early settlers in this place.
GEOGRAPHY
It is located near the
narrow strip of land linking
Northwestern Mindanao, to the
Northcentral part of the island.
Shaped like a collapsible fan it is
bounded on the northeast by the
Mindanao Sea, east by the Iligan
Bay, Southeast by the Panguil Bay,
and the west by the Zamboanga
del Norte and Sur
POPULATION
The population of
Misamis Occidental in the
2015 census was 602,126
people, with a density of
290 inhabitants per square
kilometre or 750
inhabitants per square
mile.
LANGUAGE

Subanon, pronounced “Subanen,” is the dialect


of the province, used mostly by the members of the
Subanon Tribe. However, most residents are
Cebuano-speaking and can speak tagalog and
English as well.
CLIMATE

Misamis Occidental's climate is classified as


tropical. The rainfall in Misamis Occidental is
significant, with precipitation even during the driest
month. Rainiest in August-November and driest in
February-April
ECONOMY

The province has 169 kilometres (105 mi) of


coastline fronting the rich fishing grounds of Panguil
and Iligan bays. It also has the biggest area of
brackish water fishponds in the region. Cocounut ,
rice, corn, abaca, coffee, cacao and rubber.

MISAMIS ORIENTAL
MISAMIS ORIENTAL

The province is named after the early settlement


of the Spaniards at the entrance to the Panguil Bay. It
is subdivided into 23 municipalities and 3 cities, the
capital and provincial center is Cagayan de Oro.
GEOGRAPHY
Misamis Oriental, as a
coastal province, is dominated
by two bays to the north; the
Macajalar and the Gingoog Bay.
The central portion of the
province features several
rivers originating from the
highlands of Bukidnon, such as
the Cagayan.
LANGUAGE

Cebuano/Bisaya is the language spoken in all


towns and cities in Misamis Oriental.
CLIMATE

The climate is tropical Rainfall is significant most


months of the year, and the short dry season has little
effect.
