1. INTRODUCTION
 District Haripur is situated in Hazara Division with an altitude
of around 610 meters (2,000 ft) above sea level.

 Its boundaries touches Swabi in the West, Mansehra in the


North and Abbottabad in the East.

 Its Southern boundary touches District Rawalpindi and Attock


of Punjab Province.

 Federal capital Islamabad is also adjacent to the district in


South.
2. ADMINISTRATION
 Haripur was Tehsil of Abbottabad District (Until 1992),When it separated and became a
district.

 Haripur District is divided into two tehsils Haripur and Ghazi.

 Further divided into 44 union councils of which 15 are Urban union council.

 It has 4 seats for MPA’s in KPK Assembly.

 PK 50 Haripur-II MPA Akbar Ayub Khan (PTI)
 PK-51 Haripur-III MPA Gohar Nawaz Khan (PMLN)

 1 Seat for MNA in National Assembly.

3. GEOGRAPHICAL IMPORTANCE

. It is the Gateway to most of the northern areas (Tourism spots)


including KAGHAN,NARAN,GILGIT AND SKARDU.

. Some of its areas are included in CPEC (China Pak Economic


Corridor).
Karakoram Highway,Ancient silk route also passes through
different areas of Haripur which is connected to G.T road at
Hassanabadal .
K.K.H connects china with pakistan at khunjerab pass.
4. NATURAL RESOURCES

The area is rich in natural resources and contains two important


reservoirs.
a) Tarbella Dam built on River Indus.
b) Khanpur Dam biult on River Haro.
5. DEMOGRAPHICS
 Its Populated Area is (1,725 Sq.km).

 According to 2017 Census total population of Haripur distrtict


is 1,003,031.

 Males Population =498,481 and Females Population=504,483.

 Average Population Density is 233 Person PER Sq.KM.

 Agriculture and Farming is main livelihood of the rural


population.
6. LIVEHOOD OF RURAL PEOPLE

 Livestock and farming is main source of income for


them.

 Traditional methods are used for Farming due to lack


of resources.

 Due to two major water reservoir water table is high


and ground water is used for cultivation of crops.

 Womens are children also used to work in fields as


they are cheap labor.

 Haripur District has two government funded post graduate
colleges

 Also Four Degree Colleges.

 Recently one Government University is under construction


at Kanpur Road with Austrian’s Assistance

 One Government University.

9. Tribes& Prominent Personalities
 Many castes and tribes live in Haripur including Tanolis,
Khan, Gujjars, Awan, Jadoon, Mughal, and Rajput.

 Personalities includes Field Marshal Ayub Khan, military


dictator and president of Pakistan (1958 to 1969).

 Pir Sabir Shah, Ex-chief minister of Khyber


Pakhtunkhwa(1996 to 1997).
 Air Marshal(R) Anwar Shamim also belonged to Haripur.
10. INDUSTRIES
 Haripur has developed medium and large scale
industries.
 Industrial area in Haripur Includes Hattar
Industrial Estate which includes:

Bestway Cement Factory
 Biggest Telephone industry (TIP) of Pakistan is also situated in
Haripur City.
11. FRUITS
 Haripur is a green valley rich in fruits and vegetables.
 Khanpur ,One of the main areas of Haripur Provides best
quality Red Blood Oranges across the country.
 These Oranges are also exported to other countries.

• Underconstruction Hazara Motorway a part of CPEC is also passing


through District Haripur.
• Motorway passes through Jarikas,Kotnajibullah and sara-e-salah of District
haripur.
• It is connected to burhan of tehsil hassanabdal from south and Tehsil

• Abbotabad in North .
13. Festivals
Every year people celebrates spring festival and basant in
different areas of the district
. Spring Festival at Khanpur . Basant in Haripur
14. Mountains
There are many small sized mountains in the district Haripur.
