INTRODUCTION :-
• In this rapidly growing world, Concrete has became the most important
construction material.
• Rapid infrastructural development in India has resulted in huge scarcity of
construction materials and increase in waste production.
• As there are several wastes coming from the industries and construction sites
like demolished concrete waste, marble waste, ceramic wastes etc.
• So, we can use those wastes as constituent of concrete by partially replacing
the coarse and fine aggregates, which makes the concrete economical and
also conserves the natural resources .
• In this project attempt has made to use marble waste obtained from
demolition as a replacement of fine aggregate in concrete.
OBJECTIVES :-
Following are the objectives of the project work:-
• To determine the physical properties of natural aggregate & marble dust.
• To determine compressive strength of concrete (using Natural aggregate &
marble dust).
• To compare the properties of concrete (when using marble dust) with
conventional concrete.
DETAILS OF WORK CARRIED OUT :-
• Determination of specific gravity & water absorption of aggregates.
• Grain size distribution of aggregates has been carried out.
• Preparation of the Concrete Mix Design.
• Casting of cubes (with 0%, 25%, 30%, & 40% replacement of F.A. by marble
dust).
• Testing of compressive strength of cube after 3, & 7 days of curing.
• Comparison of the compressive strength of conventional cube with that of
cube with waste marble dust.
TEST ON AGGREGATES
1.WATER ABSORPTION AND SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF FINE AGGREGATE
A = weight in g of saturated surface-dry sample=500g
B = weight in g of pycnometer or gas jar containing sample and filled with distilled water =1858g
C = weight in g of pycnometer or gas jar filled with distilled water only=1556g
D = weight in g of oven-dried sample=495g
Specific gravity= D/(A-(B-C))=495/{500-(1858-1556)}=2.5
Water Absorption=100*(A-D)/D=100*(500-495)/495=1.01%

2.WATER ABSORPTION AND SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF COARSE AGGREGATE

A=The weight in g of saturated aggregate in water=1223g
B=The weight in g of saturated surface dry aggregate in air=2004g
C=The weight in g of oven dried aggregate in air=1998g
Specific Gravity=C/(B-A)=1998/(2004-1223)=2.56
Water Absorption=100*(B-C)/C=100*(2004-1998)/1998=0.3%

3.WATER ABSORPTION AND SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF WASTE MARBLE DUST

A = weight in g of saturated surface-dry sample=500g
B = weight in g of pycnometer or gas jar containing sample and filled with distilled water =1850g
C = weight in g of pycnometer or gas jar filled with distilled water only=1532g
D = weight in g of oven-dried sample=496g
Specific gravity= D/(A-(B-C))=496/{500-(1850-1532)}=2.72
Water Absorption=100*(A-D)/D=100*(500-496)/496=0.81%
