- Packaging Innovation for Logistics
 We are here to share our thought process
as how packaging can serve the logistics in Modern trade retail.

 We are here to learn the backend activities of Modern trade and

hence will come to know future opportunities for both of us.

 The Indian Packaging industry has come a long way from a very
primitive stage to now a world class standard.
Innovation in Packaging

Change in Primary Packaging

• Modern Trade gives the opportunity to the consumer to touch and feel the
product which wasn’t there earlier hence the development of Silky matt
finish which our new products Silk & Bournville gives.

• The silky matt finish can be felt by the consumer which denotes property
of product inside.

Change in Secondary Packaging

Innovation in Packaging

Change in Product format

• Product shape and size was modified to suit the multipack option which is
the requirement of Modern Trade.

Innovation in Packaging

Packs designed to fit on the shelves of Modern trade.

Due to competition amongst the brands Shelf space has gained importance.

Packaging in Logistics

 Better space utilisation in Warehouse with Cbox Designed

in the ratio of 2:1: 2 for L:W:H

- Reduces board consumption and saves cost.

Cbox without 2:1:2 ratio Cbox with 2:1:2 ratio

Area of board required – 4,89,000 sq.mm Area of board required - 3,69,000 sq.mm
Volume of Cbox - 32000000 cu.mm Volume of Cbox - 32000000 cu.mm
No. of Outers Per Cbox - 8 No. of Outers Per Cbox – 8

Cbox designed with 2:1:2 ratio gives same volume with less board consumption which
reduces packaging material cost.
Packaging in Logistics

 Reduction in logistic cost by Maximum utilisation of Pallet & Vehicle

- Cbox w ith 2: 1: 2 ratio gives p allet utilisation and vehicle utilisation

 Racking system in the back end reduces packaging cost

Concept
A storage system that optimizes warehouse space by allowing for a more efficient &
safe way of storing products.

Traditional warehouse Racking system

Load on the bottom most Load on the bottom most
cbox :- 15 * 6= 90 kgs cbox :- 15 * 4= 60 kgs
With Racking system a cbox will require less compression strength compared to the cbox kept
in Traditional warehouse.

Benefits
- Pallet racking system increases warehouse efficiency by reducing downtime and increasing
warehouse space and reduces product damage
- Pallet racking system reduces product damage.
- It also provides easy access to all warehouse items.
Innovation in Logistics

Reduction of tertiary layer of packaging

Concept
Cboxes to be removed and display outers to be collated and shrink wrapped.
Current packaging
Primary pack Secondary pack Tertiary pack

Proposed packaging
Primary pack Secondary pack Shrink wrapped outers

Benefits
- Reduction in packaging material cost.
- Reduce pilferage during transit and transhipments.
- Better Space utilisation at warehouses.
- Saves space during transportation which inturn reduces freight cost.
Innovation in Logistics

ETL liners
Concept
Transportation of temperature sensitive product is done in refer/ insulated vehicles
Cost of refer/insulated van is substantially high compared to open trucks
Enviro tuff liner provides equivalent protection from heat as of refer/ insulated van.

Benefits
- Use of ETL with existing open truck will result in cost savings of Rs. 9 mil. (approx)
