Invention of a mechanical adding

1942 machine. The Pascaline
Abacus also called as "counting frame", a
calculating tool used for performing arithmetic
processes. It is an early computing tool.
• Abacist- the user of an Abacus.

CATHERINE RAFAEL
In electronics, vacuum tube,
electronic tube thermionic valve is
a device used to amplify switch or
modify or create an electrical
signal controlling the movement of
electrons
Special function of Vacuum
Tubes: gilled with low pressure
gas, these are so called soft tubes
as distinct from the hard vacuum
type which have the internal gas
pressure reduced as far as
possible. Almost all the tubes
depends on the thermionic
emission of electrons.
Atanasoff-Berry Computer
(ABC Prototype)

1937- John V. Atanasoff together

with Clifford Berry devised the first
digital electronic computer and came
up with the Atanasoff and Berry
Computer that became ABC Prototype
in November 1939.

1941- "Z machine" was invented by an electromechanical
Konrad Zesu especially the Z3.
Z machine was a notable achievement in the evolution
of computer. The first machine to include binary and
floating point numbers.
Z3 consisted of separate units such as a punch tape reader,
control unit, floating-point arithmetic unit and input/output
devices.

PUNCH CARD
CARD
• A punch card or punched
card (or punchcard or Hollerith
or IBM card), is a piece of stiff
paper that contains digital
information represented by the
presence or absence of holes in
predefined positions.
PUNCH CARD

ELECTRONIC RECORDING
MACHINE (ERMA)

• It was a pioneering computer

SRI under contract to Bank of
America in order to automate
banking bookkeeping.

• It incorporates most or all the
functions of Central Processing
Unit (CPU) on a single integrated
circuit.
• It is constructed for a long period
out of small and medium scales
ICs containing the equivalent of a
few to a few hundred transistors.
• The first Microprocessors (1970’s)
using a binary coded-decimal
(bcd) arithmetic on a 4-bit word.
