What is it?
• A method effective for team
meetings, problem solving and
decision making.
• Allows to separate and lead our
thoughts.
• Colors of hat identifies the type or
direction of thinking
• The main idea is “wear only one hat at
a time”
Facilitator’s role
• Define the focus of the thinking
• Plan the sequence and timing of the
thinking
• Ask for changes in the thinking if
needed
• Handle requests from the group for
changes in the thinking
• Form periodic or final summaries of
the thinking
Participants’ role
• Follow the lead of Six Thinking Hats
facilitator
• Stick to the hat that is in currently use
• Try to work within the time limits
• Contribute honestly and fully under
each of the hats
