3
Potential Hazards.
Fire / Explosion
Chemical Hazards

4
Responsibilities of End User.
Observe all safe operating procedure
developed for storage, handling & use
of Gas Cylinders
Perform daily inspection and check
on compressed gas cylinders and its
accessories
Report and inform to immediate
supervisor of any damaged parts and
ensure they are replaced or repaired
before commencing the assigned work 5
Handling of Gas Cylinders
Should be stored away from vehicle
routes, construction plant and area
where hot work activities are
performed.
Should not be rolled along the
ground from one place to another.
Should not be used as "rollers" or
"props" underneath equipment or
materials.
6
Should not be lifted or hoisted by
magnets or steel chains
Should not be lifted or hoisted by
the their valve head or protective
cap
Nylon sling will be used to lift
one cylinder at a time
7
Transportation of Compressed
Gas Cylinders
Only open-backed vehicles should
be used for the transportation in
construction site.
Compressed gas cylinders should
always be secured in the upright
position .
8
All compressed gas cylinders will be
fitted with their respective valve
protective cap.
10
Transporting Cylinders
Always transport/move cylinders in
bottle carts or an approved system-
cylinders must be secured
DO NOT:
Move cylinders by the protective cap
Roll cylinders on the ground
Drag cylinders
Do not drop or allow cylinders to strike
violently against each other or any other
objects
11
12
Storage of Cylinders
Do not store in or around
stairways, doorways, aisles,
elevators or chemicals
Post “NO SMOKING” signs
Store cylinders in an upright
position and secure so that
cylinders can not fall over
13
Protective caps must be used for
stored cylinders
Separate oxygen & fuel gases by
at least 20’ or 6 meters, by a wall
5 feet or 1.5 meter high and a
half hour rated barrier
Cylinders must be identified as
empty or full
14
Ventilation
All cylinders need to be stored in
a well ventilated area
To prevent gases to build up in
an enclosed room, tool crib or
warehouse
Build up of gases can cause an
explosion and/or fires from
electricity, hot work
15
16
Cylinders are not protected from falling. Note
that the Chain is not secured across.
17
1. Cylinder not secured 2. Cylinder should be stored
3. Subject to damage. 4. Electrical cord draped over. 18
1. Small cylinder not tied off
2. Combustibles stored with cylinders
3. Bad housekeeping
