1
Outline

• Introduction
• Precision farming
• Role of ITC
• Use of GIS in agriculture
• Agri Advisory Services in India
• Advantages and disadvantages
• Conclusion

2
INTRODUCTION
• The digital agriculture revolution can provide
the solutions to the problem of feeding the
world sustainably.
• Digital agriculture will not only change how
farmers farm but will fundamentally transform
every part of the agri-business value chain.

• It is the use of new and advanced

technologies.
3
PRECISION FARMING

• It is about doing the right

thing, in the right place, in the
right way, at the right time.

• A raft of new technologies

have been introduced to better
analyse the soil acidity, nutrient
level, historical yield and
climate variations of a field.

4
Role of IT in agriculture
• Farmers must use the information and
communication technology (ICT) in the
agricultural purposes.
• India’s food production and productivity can
be increased by an effective use of IT for
agricultural purposes.
• The developed countries are using laser
technology instead of tractors to plough
lands.
5
Use of GIS in Agriculture
• Geographic information
systems or GIS, are
extensively used in
agriculture, especially in
precision farming.
• It is used in decision
making such as what to
plant and where to plant.
• Functions are Digital
mapping and Analysis of
soil.

Krishi Vani
Voice message based agro-advisory

• Using a special SIM card in

their mobile phones,
farmers can get up to 35
voice messages per week
free in the regional
language.
• The messages are in 16
categories such as weather,
market, crop information,
government schemes,
nutrition, health, livestock,
etc.

8
Delivering climate information through mobiles

• Users access content on the

internet and on their mobile
phones, choosing from a range
of applications to create a
personalized interface.
• For example, farmers can sign
up to receive alerts on their
mobile phones when new
market prices are posted or
send a request for the most
recent prices.

9
YouTube for the farm

• Short videos created by

farmers in the local
language on topics
relevant to neighbouring
farmers
• A content gathering
team decides the videos
to be produced in
consultation with the
farmers.
10
Eye in the sky
Remote sensing satellite :
• It is able to predict
agricultural production,
digital libraries and
algorithms

• This enables agro-dealers to

provide targeted services
such as finance, fertilizer,
seed, pest control.

11
Benefits of Digital Agriculture Tools
• Monitor Soil & Plant Parameters

• Automate Field Management

• Collect Real-Time Data

• Get the Best Results From Labour &

Resources
12
Advantage Disadvantage

• Modern machines can • Lack of practical

control the efforts of knowledge the farmers
farmers. can’t handle the
• Low run of chemicals machines properly.
and also waste • It is efficient but has
materials into seas and many side effects and
water. drawbacks.
• Reduce impact on the • Cost of maintenance is
eco system. very high

13
Conclusion
• The greatest need is to deliver targeted and
timely information to farmers based on their
needs.
• Digital innovation could change the entire
agricultural supply chain, but only if trust is
built through a united sense of purpose.
• It helps in better marketing exposure and
pricing and reduction of agricultural risks and
enhanced incomes.
