HISTORY
HAND-HELD BELLOWS
The history of air compressor use
can be traced back thousands of
years to when early civilizations
discovered the power of the human
lung. With its ability to exhale
oxygen, the lung made it easier to
build fires for cooking and keeping
warm.

BENEFITS OF
COMPRESSOR
WHY DO WE NEED
COMPRESSOR?
Compressors are usually used in;
Air conditioner (car, home)
Home and industrial refrigeration
Hydraulic compressors for industrial
machines
Air compressors for industrial manufacturing
CLASSIFICATION
POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT
COMPRESSOR
Positive displacement compressors draw in and
capture a volume of air in a chamber. They then
reduce the volume of the chamber to compress the
air.
Positive displacement compressor operate by
forcing a fixed volume of fluid from the inlet pressure
section of the compressor into discharge zone of the
compressor.
RECIPROCATING
COMPRESSORS
are useful for
supplying small
amounts of a gas
at relatively high
pressures.
SINGLE ACTING
COMPRESSOR
Consist of
single cylinder
which only takes
in and discharges
fluid at one end
DOUBLE ACTING
COMPRESSOR
A double acting
unit also has only
one cylinder but it
is piped up to take
in and discharge
fluid at both ends.
DIAPHRAGM TYPE
Is a variant of the
classic
reciprocating
compressor.
The compression
of gas occurs by
means of a flexible
membrane, instead
of an intake
Advantages Disadvantage

FAQS
What are the advantages of using
compressed air vs. other power sources?
1.) Safety is one of the biggest advantages. Electrical shock potential is greatly
reduced.
2.) Typically, pneumatic tools will weigh less than electric tools and make the tools
more ergonomically friendly.
3.) Compressed air has more flexibility than electrical tools because the
compressor can be made to be mobile. Either in the case of engine driven units or
wheeled portables that can be moved around at the job site.
4.) Compressed air can be regulated which permits varying pressure range uses
within one piping system.
5.) In almost all cases, the air tool's initial purchase cost is less than
comparable electric or hydraulic tools.
6.)Compressed air distribution systems are easier and less costly to install
than electrical grids and less demanding than hydraulic system lines. The
compressed air system can be modified for multiple points of use.
7.)Air tools have less maintenance and down time than hydraulic tools. They
also will not burn the air tool motor up like an electric tool could in low
electrical voltage situations.
8.)Air tools run cooler because the expanded air dissipates the heat of
operation as the air passes through the tool.
