INTRODUCTION
 A remarkable step in Indian infrastructure.
 A second mass transit system in India.
 High frequency urban based mass transit
system.
NEED OF METRO
 Increasing population in delhi.
 Increase in the number of vehicles
ultimately increase congestion.
 To provide world class transportation
facilities.
ADVANTAGES OF DELHI METRO
 Time saving.
 Reduction in the number of road
accidents.
 Decongestion of transportation system.
 Increase in average speed of city buses.
 Pollution free.
CONSTRUTION HISTORY
 Metro plan was first suggested by Central Road
Research Institution (C.R.R.I) in 1969-70.
 Detailed project report comprised of 50 technical report,
101 tenders packages, and 2066 drawings.
 For convienice DPR divided in 8 sections.
 On 3rd may 1995, DMRC incorporated companies act
with partcipation of Central Government of National
Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
 Estimated cost of master plan is Rs. 315.00 billion
according to price level dated april 2001.
STARTING OF CONSTRUCTION
PHASE- 1
 First phase starting between Shahdara
and Tis hajari section launched on 24th
Dec. 2002.
 First phase comprise of 2 underground
metro corridors.
CONSTRUCTION PHASE- 2
 This phase of Delhi Metro is in progress.
 It involves construction of greater height and
deeper depths than those of phase- 1.
 Complex nature.
 Elevated track above road crossings, railway
interactions and fly overs.
 Used world class equipments in construction like
launcher, crawler, high definition crane etc.
 Earth quake proof structure.
PROBLEM FACED DURING
CONSTRUCTION
 High excavation work in congested areas.
 Water logged areas.
 Under water construction.
FUTURE EXTENSION OF DELHI
METRO
 Phase- 3 construction.
 Dead line of phase-3 is 2015.
 Total length of phase-3 is 112 km.
 Dead line of phase-4 is 2020.
 Total length of phase-4 is 108.5 km.
 Total length of all phases is 413 km.
REWARD OF METRO
 Delhi metro collaborated with United
states, Asia environmental programme
and New York mass transit system in jan.
2001.
 DMRC was awarded ISO certificate at the
time of metro construction sections.
 DMRC is the only system in the world to
achieve a certificate in the construction.
