PLANNING RESEARCH

• Issues to consider:
1) What is the scale of the breadth and depth you want regarding the info you
need?
2)What resources do you have?

- - Time Scale - Existing Resources

- - Existing Knowledge - Man Power

- - Man hours - Support

- - Sample - Funding
CREATING A RESEARCH DESIGN

• Where will the research be conducted?

• When will the research be conducted?

• Who or what will be researched?

• How will the research be conducted?

STEPS IN RESEARCH DESIGNS

1) Select a topic
2) Identify the research problems
3) Conduct a literature search
4) Construct a hypothesis
5) Determine the design of the research
6) Determine the research method
7) Conduct the research and test the hypothesis
8) Analyze the data
9) Formulate conclutions
DESIGNING AN EXPERIMENT

1) Title for the experiment (Effect of IV on DV)

2) Hypothesis (If-then statement)
3) Independent Var.
4) Levels of independent variable
5) Control
6) Number of trials
7) Dependent variables/how they will be measured
8) Constants

Constants
EXPERIMENTAL GROUP VS CONTROL
GROUP
• Experimental Group: The group being
experimented on/tested.

• Control Group: is defined as the group in an

experiment or study that does not receive
treatment by the researchers and is then used as a
benchmark to measure how the other tested
subjects do.
