Carpenter’s

Tools
• One of the most traditional roles or trades
in the construction industry is the
carpentry. Carpenters or woodworking
contractors are needed in almost every
construction project.

• Carpentry is a skilled trade in which the

primary work performed is the cutting,
shaping and installation of building
materials during the construction of
buildings, ships, timber bridges, concrete
Carpenter’s
Tools
Chisel
A chisel is a tool with a characteristically shaped
cutting edge (such that wood chisels have lent part of
their name to a particular grind) of blade on its end,
for carving or cutting a hard material such as wood,
stone, or metal by hand, struck with a hammer, or
mallet. The handle and blade of some types of chisel
are made of metal or of wood with a sharp edge in it.

Chiselling use involves forcing the blade into some

material to cut it. The driving force may be applied by
pushing by hand, or by using a mallet or hammer. In
industrial use, a hydraulic ram or falling weight ('trip
hammer') drives a chisel into the material.
File
A file is a tool used to remove fine amounts of
material from a workpiece. It is common in
woodworking, metalworking, and other similar trade
and hobby tasks.

A file is a tool. It is used to shape materials, by

cutting away some of it. Today, files are usually made
of a steel bar that has a rough surface. By rubbing the
surface against a material, some of the material is cut
away. There are also nail files used to shape a person's
fingernails.Files also make the surface of the area
smooth so that when it comes to the building process
Gauge
It is used in woodworking and metalworking to mark
out lines for cutting or other operations. The purpose
of the gauge is to scribe a line parallel to a reference
edge or surface. It is used in carpentry and metal
operations.

The gauge consists of a beam, a headstock, and a

scribing or marking implement, typically a pin, knife,
pen or wheel. The headstock slides along the beam,
and is locked in place by various means: a locking
screw, cam lever, or a wedge. The marking implement
Plier
Pliers are a hand tool used to hold objects firmly,
possibly developed from tongs used to handle hot metal.
They are also useful for bending, cutting and
compressing a wide range of materials.

Pliers are made in various shapes and sizes and for

many uses. Some are used for gripping something round
like a pipe or rod, some are used for twisting wires, and
others are designed to be used for a combination of
tasks including cutting wire. There are also tools that
are used just for cutting wires (as opposed to wire cable
Crowbar
A crowbar, also called a wrecking bar, pry bar or
prybar, pinch-bar, or occasionally a prise bar or prisebar,
colloquially, in Britain and Australia sometimes called a
jimmy (also called jimmy bar or jemmy), gooseneck, or
pig foot, is a tool consisting of a metal bar with a single
curved end and flattened points, often with a small
fissure on one or both ends for removing nails.
It is used as a lever either to force apart two objects
or to remove nails. Crowbars are commonly used to open
nailed wooden crates, remove nails, or pry apart boards.
In mining, crowbars are used to break and remove rock,
Saw
A saw is a tool consisting of a tough blade, wire, or
chain with a hard toothed edge. It is used to cut through
material, very often wood. The cut is made by placing
the toothed edge against the material and moving it
forcefully forth and less forcefully back or continuously
forward. This force may be applied by hand, or powered
by steam, water, electricity or other power source. An
abrasive saw has a powered circular blade designed to
cut through metal or ceramic.
Screw driver
A screwdriver is a tool, manual or powered, for
screwing and unscrewing (inserting and removing)
screws. A typical simple screwdriver has a handle and a
shaft, ending in a tip the user puts into the screw head
before turning the handle. The shaft is usually made of
tough steel to resist bending or twisting. The tip may be
hardened to resist wear, treated with a dark tip coating
for improved visual contrast between tip and screw—or
ridged or treated for additional 'grip'. Handles are
typically wood, metal, or plastic and usually hexagonal,
square, or oval in cross-section to improve grip and
Auger

An auger is a drilling device, or drill

bit, that usually includes a rotating
helical screw blade called a "flighting"
to act as a screw conveyor to remove
the drilled out material. The rotation of
the blade causes the material to move
out of the hole being drilled.
Rule (Steel Tape)

It is a flexible ruler and used to measure

distance. It is a metal strip with linear-
measurement markings. It is a common
measuring tool. Its design allows for a
measure of great length to be easily carried
in pocket or toolkit and permits one to
measure around curves or corners.
Level
A spirit level, bubble level or simply a
level is an instrument designed to indicate
whether a surface is horizontal (level) or
vertical (plumb). Different types of spirit
levels may be used by carpenters,
stonemasons, bricklayers, other building
trades workers, surveyors, millwrights and
other metalworkers, and in some
photographic or videographic work.
Plane

A hand plane is a tool for

shaping wood using muscle
power to force the cutting blade
over the wood surface.
Hammer
A hammer is a tool or device that delivers a
blow (a sudden impact) to an object. Most
hammers are hand tools used to drive nails, fit
parts, forge metal, and break apart objects.
Hammers vary in shape, size, and structure,
depending on their purposes.
Hammers are basic tools in many trades. The
usual features are a head (most often made of
steel) and a handle (also called a helve or haft).
Although most hammers are hand tools, powered
Hatchet

A hatchet is a single-handed striking

tool with a sharp blade on one side
used to cut and split wood, and a
hammer head on the other side. A
hatchet is a type of hand axe; a small
axe meant to be used with one hand.
