Fibonacci sequence

A Sequence is an ordered list of numbers, called terms, that may have repeated values. The
arrangement of these terms is set by a definite rule.

Examples : Generating a sequence


Analyze the given sequence for its rule and identify the next three terms.
a.1, 10, 100, 1000
b.2,5,9,14, 20
c.1,1,2,3,5,8
( this is an example of Fibonacci sequence)

Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where a number is found by adding up the


two numbers before it. Denoted by Fn with 1 as the first term.

{Fn } = { 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144,…}

Fibonacci numbers:
F1 = 1, F2 = 1, and Fn = Fn-1 + Fn-2, for n > 3, where n is a positive integer.

Observation: When you add two odd numbers, the answer is even

Observation: The Fibonacci sequence shows that every nth number is a
multiple of xn

Exercise Set

1. What are the observations on the following cases about Fibonacci


sequence?
a. The first number is multiplied by the third number and the
second is squared in any consecutive Fibonacci numbers. Repeat the
procedure for four other sets.
b. The first number is multiplied by the fourth number and the
second number is multiplied by the third number in any four
consecutive Fibonacci numbers. Repeat the procedure for four other
sets.
2. Find the following:
a. F19 b. F 22
3. If F22 = 17, 711 and F 24 = 46, 368, find F 23.

4. Get the sum of the first six terms and compare with
the eight number. Repeat the procedure for the succeeding
sets of four numbers in the Fibonacci sequence.
